Yeah, he really has, all you gotta do is look at any number that shows actual results

You mean his 18-19 season with a .917...

Or what about his sub 3 GAA 3 years ago...

These aren't great stats... But they aren't bad

Four years ago eh? Wow, thats really impressive save the part where it was binnington who backstopped that team 90% of thr way and that it has no baring on what he is today. And why on earth would you want a backup mentoring a guy you want to be a starter?
Lol, continually over 900 is not good, especially for a backup who gets fed the softer starts

Softer starts? Usually at the end of a back to back. Binnington was good too in that run but Allen was .935%. Just saying, mentally he is fine. Already been to the show and performed well

This is the 5th season since 2018/19, but sure if 4 years makes you feel better hes been terrible for 4 years instead of 5, thats not a good thing for a guy in his prime age years. And GAA is one of the three most usless and meaningless stats ever to be conceived, it's +/- for goalies

ANA has also been in the middle of a rebuild during that stretch...

Give Gibson a break when Benoit is one of ANA's top 4 defensemen

Yes, and they play the backup on the softer start of the back to back, every team does this. And 5 games vs 26 means nothing.
The leafs have brought in dozens of guys who have "been around the show " and were actually huge parts of cup wins and it hasnt changed anything, why would a backup change that?

I am giving him a break when i say that he's probably the 22nd or 23rd best goalie over that stretch instead of 28th or 29th.
What about the terrible results when fowler, lindholm and manson were the big top 4 d in their primes?

Fowler's been washed for 2-3 years now
Lindholm is solid but was in his early 20s before being traded (28 now)
Manson is on the 3rd pair for COL

Benoit was playing top 4 minutes for ANA, that's how bad that Ducks team was...

Then why was gibson bad when those guys were good? The entire point is that it hasnt mattered who was in front of him these past years, he has just stunk consistently. He is a key factor in the ducks being bad and needing to rebuild

-2024 1st
-Niemela
-Hivonen

2 of these pieces should get an good add with term and then get a cheap upgrade...

Easy, done... Next

The first is likely 20th+, Niemela is a good young prospect but is undersized and if he can't push anyone off the Leafs blueline, there aren't a lot of teams he would get a top 4 spot on and Hiroven is a small winger who doesn't move the needle too much when you are trying to trade for a top 4 RHD, or in this case 2 top 4 RHD.

They weren't good as a whole blue line though...

They only need 1 top 4 RHD... And they won't be equivalent to 2 1sts...

And Savard isn't a top 4 RHD in MTL, what makes you think he will be that in TO when Lilly comes back

So? Lots of teams arnt good as a whole blue line and their goalies put up good numbers. The coyotes goalies have been churning out better numbers almost the entire time. Hell, the leafs apparently have had awful defence forevee and their goalies put up better numbers.

This ACGM has the Leafs acquiring 2 top 4 RHD, 2 top 4 RHD will cost 2 1sts+. I do agree though that the Leafs only need 1 and said as much above when I said "doesn't move the needle too much when you are trying to trade for a top 4 RHD"

Savard is a top 4 RHD on any team just plays a much more playoff oriented game than Leafs fans are used to.

You personally don’t think that Allen/Savard are an upgrade for the Leafs over Brodie/Sammy. I’m sorry but Sammy does not have a strong enough mental game to make it in Toronto. You need calm and cool and be able to let things roll off you. Just like Andersen and Campbell, not made for big markets

How do you know Allen has the mental to play in Toronto? The term on his contract is not desirable.

Also, how could you say that about Andersen when he stabilized the Leafs goaltending situation for most of his time there? His terrible 5th year in which he was struggling with injuries and his weaker 4th year somehow erased the first 3-years from your memory? Allen at his best, at this point in his career, would probably be posting the numbers that Andersen did in his 4th year. They don't call him "Steady Freddy" just for the rhyme.

Steady Freddy. Lol. Should him, Broken Steady. Injured plagued and not clutch.

Allen’s term gives Hildebeast enough time to develop and takeover the tandem with Woll.

They can sign Samsonov or any other goalie available in FA for that purpose but at a lower AAV. There's nothing special about Allen's term since he's making more than most.

Still feel this way after watching Swiss cheese Samsonov last night? He is awful and you can tell he gets in his own head. Send him to a non hockey market

Well for now Woll seems solid, and Jones looks okay too so far. I think they should look to add to the defense-first if they are adding before February. If they think they want to add goaltending depth after that, assuming there are no other pressing needs (they wanted to add two defenders), then that's something they could look to do between February and deadline. If there's nothing urgent and they are going to trust the rookie Woll, then they evaluate bringing back Samsonov after the season.

No way they bring him back even at league min. I’d rather have Jones backing up Woll and give Hildebeast the odd start to get his feet wet

Jones might price himself out or end up being bad as well. It's far too early. If Samsonov has a trash season but then an incredible playoffs it's possible that they bring him back on a cheap deal. I don't think it would be a good idea to rush Hildeby while Woll is looking good, especially since Woll could very well look like the guy, get a contract and then falter. Having Hildeby ready to steal the crease then potentially would be valuable.

Just to add to what I said earlier, they might have the opportunity to add a Dman and a G at the same time like Tanev+Vladar for example but it just depends on what opportunities are out there and if it makes sense in terms of cost of acquisition and their salary structure.

Dude, rumour is they couldn’t get an interview with him after the game yesterday because he was sobbing in his stall. Another Campbell story. Not mentally strong enough to play in Tor. It’s a tough market and our media is relentless.
