Either way, no way we will have this star power still past 5 years time. Just want to give the team the best chance to win in that window.

Unfortunately for the Leafs Treliving already said that both Cowan and Minton are off the table in trades this year. I don't know how he plans on upgrading the roster (especially the bottom 6 and D) without including the only interesting peices the Leafs have but that's his problem I guess.

-2024 1st
-Niemela
-Hivonen

2 of these pieces should get an good add with term and then get a cheap upgrade...

Easy, done... Next

You personally don’t think that Allen/Savard are an upgrade for the Leafs over Brodie/Sammy. I’m sorry but Sammy does not have a strong enough mental game to make it in Toronto. You need calm and cool and be able to let things roll off you. Just like Andersen and Campbell, not made for big markets

Wow, i didnt know you were samsonovs psychiatrist. Lol what nonsense, and if you think allen is better, then why is he putting up garbage numbers as a back up on a team with no pressure? Sounds like a mentally super soft player.
And savard flat out stinks. He gets blown out of the water on shots and chances allowed and has for years. Hes slow, cant move the puck out of his own zone and yes, he's even awful at clearing the net because he literally bleeds shots and chances from arount the net. Also he sucks on the pk, he sucks so bad that the habs, a bad bad team, are significantly better at preventing shots and chances while shorthanded when he isnt on the pk.

- It's a very hyperbolic example but Sammy clears Allen and Allen has term... Allen's worse than Murray was last year...

- Brodie is significantly better than Savard, while I do think the Leafs should knock for Savard, not at anything valuable... His biggest value is standing in front of shots on the PK...

- Brodie is still needed on this team... His puck recovery rates are long the best in the league... And you score on the transition when defences don't get into their defensive posture

Leafs wouldn't take it as they already have cap space to keep Brodie

I get you like analytics guy. That’s fine but my personal opinion is that McCabe has stepped up to be more valuable for #2LD spot and for 3M less. Lagesson for me is a main stay. Guy has done nothing wrong(Benoit too) which makes the Brodie move easier to make

So say Domi has a great year at C and steps up in playoffs. Do you still drop him for Minten to be 3C? Where does Cowan fit as well? Can’t play all these new guys on the 3rd line and not worth it if they are getting 4th line minutes

or people who watch hockey brodie>savard

I think he addresses the Leafs needs. Who wins a puck battle in front of the net or corners between these two? Savard all day and those are the Leafs weak spots. Brodie can clear out Gallagher if they are playing Montreal and maybe Caufield

I'm not though... The way Brodie plays, watching in game, makes him super valuable to the Leafs until the end of year... McCabe is our number 2, we know and accept that and I like it too... But that doesn't mean Brodie isn't valuable...

Don't like Lagesson come playoff time... He's a solid number 7 if need be but nothing more, same with Benoit...

Robertson can fill the RW2 role if he continues impressing the Leafs... Or the RW4 role if he stops...

Shouldn't be too expensive for him...

I'm not touching Nylander with a 10 foot pole if he asks for anything more than 9.5

I get that Aquatic. But how often are you going to this much skill in your lineup? I’ve been a Leafs fan for over 30 years and have never had this much talent. We have about a 4-5 year window to win while these guys are all at their best and under contract. So yes, in this situation I would definitely give up some future for the NOW.

It's not necessarily the trading of the prospects that is the issue. The return isn't a game changer. The leafs have traded for a "Savard type" every year for the past 5 years. Jake Allen is the next guy up in average goaltending for the leafs? Monahan is playing well and could help.

I guess my point is if you're gunna make a trade using players like this, why don't they go after something big. Like Gibson, or Hanifin/Tanev? Why take a bunch of middle pieces from a below average team?

I think playoff time is when they will be at their best. They are physical and don’t mind mixing it up.

I’m not saying Brodie isn’t valuable, I’m saying with Rielly, McCabe and Lagesson/Benoit and our 3 LD’s, we could use Brodies cap along with Klings LTIR to get two valuable RHD to play our right side along with Timmins. I feel being a D on your own side is more valuable these days as the game has gotten so fast. Brindamour(coach of the canes) is a also a believer in this

I agree with that Owl but for a D. I’d love to get a legit top RD to play with Rielly and get maybe Boosh from ANH to fill out top 6. Thinking like a Larsson or Murphy

Guy's been on the "Gibson is terrible" train for 2-3 years now...

But the Leafs don't need a goalie... Would rather go after, like you said, Hanifin/Tanev instead of garbage and mid... Like the Canadiens since 2005

Yeah, and a bunch of people have been on the "gibson is actually really good, despite the fact that he lets in goals at one of the worst rates in the league and has for a long time" forever. Odd how no one has ever been able to do anything other than say "uh uh! He's good!" When pressed

We don’t need him anyway. If we were to get a goalie, I think it would be a vet on a 1-2 year term to help Woll become legit #1 and Hildebeast can come back up

Dude has been underwater (negative goals saved above expected) for every year in the past 5. This is first year he is above water. Combine that with his contract, safe to say he is terrible

Gibson's also faced the most shots in the NHL every year over the last 2-3 years... He's also faced high quality shots... This is bc of being on a rebuilding ANA team... Can't really blame him for that

Gibson's 1rst year "above water" bc this is the first year ANA's put solid defence in front of him...

Well ‘saved above expected’ means you should save the shot; sure there’s some grey area on how / who calculated what shots should be saved, etc but point is it is supposed to isolate goalie from team. And personally I don’t buy the ‘he’s great, it’s the team that sucks’ argument. He’s washed imo, one of the worst contracts in the league but 🤷🏻 to each their own.
