Leafs would be crazy to give up Nylander for those pieces coming back. I can't see the flames saying no to this.

More craziness about Nylander signing an extension as part of the trade. Have there ever been a case where a true Cup contender (the Leafs think they are) allowed a star player to negotiate with another team as part of possible trade, mid season? Really?
And this hurts the Leafs this year. Tanev/Zaradov/Mangiapaine for Brodie and Nylander, though the Leafs might be able to use the cap for another player.

I say yes if I am Conroy or Treliving (or Shanahan or whoever is in charge of TMLs)

Toronto better receive a lot more in return. Leafs are getting 2 rental Dmen and a middle six scoring winger for one of the best wingers in the game. Hanifin in for Zadorov would be more fair, but even then CGY prolly wins that trade.

Nylander for Huberdeau after playoffs

Leafs need better defense, not scoring. Nylander is the one valuable chip they have to entice teams to trade their top 4 defencemen other than prospects like Cowan or Minten which the Leafs would be wise to keep.

You may right about Nylander being the only valuable chip the Leafs have, though he does has M NTC. But please, these "extensions" to base a trade are nonsensical for the reasons I gave.
As poor as the Leafs have looked this year, they are 6th in East, and have a better record than they had at this time last season.

That's mostly due to their soft schedule, especially two lay ups in Sweden. If it were not for the heroics of Nylander and Matthews this team would not be in a playoff spot.

If we're being honest this is not a playoff team. Top heavy, soft roster. Bottom six is weak defensively, defense is in shambles, goaltending is mediocre, coach is not good enough.

So tell me, why is Zaradov and Tanev the answer to the Leafs? Zaradov and Tanev are the 4th and 5th Dmen on the Flames. Flames are out of the playoffs this year, and were last season Flames are 20st in GAA...Leafs 21st.
Sorry, these Flames trades are just getting worse and worse, thinking two middling Dmen are the answer for the Leafs.
Matthews heroics? He should be a top 5 forward in the league with his 11.6m salary. He's no where close this season.

For two games he was a hero, the rest a zero. But winning those two games is what separates them from being a playoff team and a non-playoff team.

As for Tanev and Zadorov, yes, they're being overrated, but they are definite upgrades on the likes of Benoit, Timmins, and Lagesson. Leafs will be a much better team with them.
