Ottawa held onto Joseph and were immediately proven right to do so. The way he's played this year, his contract is a steal. They need more of his style of play in the lineup

I do not think this is reasonable at all... I think that they resign Pesce or Skjei and either a 3LD or Scott Morrow and I think Jarvis will be more around the $6-7m for 8 year range than $8m, They will almost certainly bring back Martinook (he's a member of the leadership core) and Stefan Noesen will probably get another deal

That and it's probably a lot easier to just resign Martinook

Canes do listen to Rod, for sure, but only to a certain extent. If someone is going to truly overpay Martinook in UFA, I will bet that the Canes will allow them to do so. I would rather that the Canes make an aggressive play for Joseph via a larger trade package than shown here, because does what Martinook does as a forechecker but with more offense and at 26 years of age.

Martinook is probably going to get like $2-3m at most and that's not overpaid for the service he provides

The top 3 in xGA/60 and 97th defensive percentile would like to have a word... he's a pure defensive defensemen but he's one of the best in the business at it and $2-3m is a fair price tag for that

They've scored more than they've let in. The Hurricane's problem in the playoff isn't the bottom six's lack of scoring it's when the top six stop scoring and when the PK goes on a cold streak. Staal's line usually sets up offensive zone shifts for the other three lines and keeps the puck out of their own net which is very useful. Martinook has actually only had 10 PIM compared to 16 for Staal, 18 for Svech, and 14 for KK.
