Description
From what we've seen so far and assuming production stays similar. these are some pieces I can see move. Players I think don't get traded but could are Foligno, T Johnson, and Jason dickinson. I could definitely see Murphy get moved but I think there is a better chance that's in the offseason.
Transactions
1.
CHI
  1. Copley, Pheonix
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2025 (LAK)
Détails additionnels:
Copley hasn't been very good this year with a current goals saved above expected at -6 and the Kings might wan some insurance if Talbot goes down.

Condition: If the La kings make it to the 3rd round and Mrazek plays a minimum of 4 games in the Playoffs, this pick becomes a 1st in 2024 or 2025
LAK
  1. Mrázek, Petr (1 900 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Mrazek has been stellar with a sub par defense in front of him, this is a sell high scenario.
2.
CHI
  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (NJD)
Détails additionnels:
Devils adding a vet whop has looking alright so far for some added depth. Although i'm not too sure if this is too much or too little in return
NJD
  1. Perry, Corey (2 000 000 $ retained)

I like the kings trade. Honestly Mrazek is underrated for how he has been playing. Last season I didn't think he was horrible either. Considering the team in front of him that is.

In a vacuum, the Perry trade is probably fine. But, when you consider CHI's position right now, burning one of their last two retention slots for a 3rd round pick makes no sense. Unless, of course, it is last minute and they have the retention slot to spare with no other more lucrative trades in the works that would require retention.

The Mrazek trade is fine, though.

The hawks will probably keep Perry unless be specifically asks for a trade or another team comes in with an overpayment. A similar story with Foligno, I would guess Foligno extends for another year while Perry moves into a coaching position.

Yeah i get that, I think they only trade perry if they retain because the cap hit is so large. Maybe this means they get a 2nd back instead but if these are the only two trades they make (which it wont be) i can see the retention making sense.

Talbot is playing exceptionally well. The Kings just need a reliable backup, and they're not about to pay a 2nd (and definitely not a 1st) for a rental backup goaltender.

Make it a 3rd that turns into a 2nd if Mrazek plays a majority of games, and the Kings might consider it.

yeah that was the debate in my head, although I do see Perry as someone whos more willing to move on, thats why I have him getting traded and not Foligno.

That's fair, I think if the pick was moved to a 3rd, either the retention would be less or the condition would be much easier to hit.

Any goaltender trade the Kings would make won't happen until the deadline, at which point salaries would be so pro-rated that the retention wouldn't make much of a difference.

In the meantime, if Copley can't get the job done, the Kings will give Rittich a try before looking for a trade option.

Operating from a position of strength, I can’t see the hawks moving perry for less than a 2nd. I really do think that’s what they value him at and won’t trade him unless he asks.

Mrazek probably has value to a contender as a backup - yeah he's played better than "backup" so far, but based on his career body of work I doubt anyone wants to go into the playoffs with him as their #1. Maybe a kind of #1a situation.

Perry and Foligno both figure to be appealing at the deadline, but with guys their age you gotta see 1) if they can keep up a good start over a long season and 2) if they are healthy come the TDL.

Yeah. I get it. Asking for more than a 3rd for Perry would probably seem silly to a lot of people on here, even with the retention. But, if they want him, it has to make sense for CHI too. A 3rd is "magic beans". I think I'd rather just let Perry play through the end of the season. At the same time, if a veteran like that wants to go play meaningful playoff hockey, you just make it happen.

I agree LA probably doesn't make this deal at the moment but someone will. I doubt they get the conditional first but a straight forward 2nd seems possible. Depending on injuries and assuming mrazek continues his hot start.

Successful teams can't go into the playoffs without a good backup as we know. Mrazek is a hell of a backup. Keeping 2 goalies fresh throughout the way to a cup is critical and a huge advantage.

Absolutely, but not at that cost. There will be other fully capable backups available that won't potentially cost the Kings a 1st round pick.

My bet is that the Kings trade a 3rd round pick for Kevin Lankinen at the deadline.
