Description
Leaf fans note:

1. Bertuzzi has a NMC so he won't work for cap balancing.
2. Klingberg has a 10 team NTL he might have to waive. Considering his current situation in Toronto he should be willing to waive to go anywhere else by now.

Rough breakdown:

1st + 1st + Timmons for Zadorov + Tanev
Minten for taking Klingberg + retention on Flames players

Oilers fans note:

Based on Rupert McDonald's article on The Hockey Writer but with the oilers buying out Campbell and sending Foegele to Calgary instead of Calgary taking Campell's horrible contract.

Yes it's more than Calgary would accept from another team due to the Battle of Alberta rivalry tax.

Leafs aren't giving up Minten and 2 x 1sts for 2 pending UFAs. Zadorov is a good 4th or 5th dman. Tanev is a solid #3.

No team will offer this much for those 2.

Leafs pass easily, but they will be in strongly on those guys. Just not this strong.

Not really a rebuild, more like a breath of fresh air really

Other than Tanev, who it’s time to move on from anyways, we don’t need any of those guys and should move Sharangovich, Vladar & Nikoleyev (managed by Dan Milstein) out at the same time

Find out who else doesn’t want to be here and get rid of them. We’ll instantly improve and already have better pieces to replace them. Zary & Pospisil are proving this

Figure it out Lindholm & Hanifin or you’re both gone too and pick it up Dube or you’ll be replaced as well. I don’t see a Dube being a Flame next season anyways. Pelletier will be back, Pospisil & Zary will have cemented a place on the roster and hopefully Honzek is NHL Ready next season

Hanafin and Tanev I could see but not Zadorov

Zadorov comparables all got at most a 3rd. Look what Edmunson went for that's the closest comparable

EDM can't buyout Campbell right now and can't trade for Markstrom's 6M cap hit without sending equal cap out. This Rupert guy doesn't understand the cap, clearly. That is IF EDM wanted to pay that ludicrous price for Marky anyway. Which I doubt they do.

Right, I forgot about buyout windows. Teams can't just buy a player out whenever they want they can only do it when a window is open.

That kills that idea then. The Flames would rather keep Marky than take on Campbell for almost as much money AND an extra year.

That's not enough return for Brad, he basically can't make anymore moves afterwards and he may have more work to do, dumping more contracts, maybe goalie, maybe more D.

If he's paying that much, he needs to find a dance partner who will take more garbage back.

Sorry, but Edmundson is a terrible comparable. The guy can’t even play hockey anymore, his back is shot. He’s never been able to play a full season either, nor can he score like Zadorov. Big Ben Chiarot’s the comparable

You want Term!? No problem, we can arrange for a Sign & Trade, it’s really not that difficult

Or we can just wait and sign him in FA if we want term

Hes not the type of player to do a sign and trade with lul

In general rental 3rd pair Dman last year got 3rd round picks

Ghost
Schenn
Edmunson
Kulikov

Heck this summer Severson went for a 3rd in a sign and trade.

Everyone who got a 1st was a top 4 D with term.

Only 2 rentals went for a 1st and they were better

Orlov and Gavrikov and those 2 guys were top to 2nd pair guys.

LOL very unlikely he makes it to free agency. Even if he does do you really want Bonehead Brad badly overpaying yet another free agent?

Brad signed him 2 years 3.75m last time which was fine

Why would he need to overpay

At most he would get 3.5-4m x 2-3 years

Thats fine

In general how would he not make it to FA lul. If your having yourself a season test the market lots of guys do that

Its basically smart business move 101 guess yah missed that lul

He won’t be available as a Free Agent lol. If Zadorov’s Traded now, it’ll be to a Team wanting him past this season, we’re not at the Deadline where Cap Strapped Teams are looking for rentals. The reason for this Trade request is because he wants a new contract and more TOI

Ghost is an offensive D-Man and isn’t the Big Mean Physical Shut Down D-Man GM’s covet, so yet another terrible comparable, as would Jeff Petry be

Schenn is, but he’s older, sucks, doesn’t score and was an AHL’er not long ago, remember!?

I’ve already explained Edmundson to you. He’s essentially useless at this point in his career

Severson’s not a 3rd pairing btw. He was Traded in the off-season with no contract less than 3 weeks away from being a fully available, no strings attached, Free Agent. I’m guessing CLB paid a 3rd to avoid a Bidding War for his services and/or having to pay him more than they did

Kulikov, similar to Schenn, is older and sucks hardcore, but more importantly doesn’t bring the Size, Grit & Meanness guys like Chiarot, Zadorov or Schenn do

So, Go Fish = Please Play Again!

Find some BIG/HUGE, Mean, Gritty, Physical, Defensive D-Men who can Score and will drop the Gloves to Stand Up and Protect their Teammates and are True Enforcers on the ice, like Zadorov & Chiarot was at the time he was Traded and then you’ll have fair comparables

Go offer MTL a 3rd for David Savard, who isn’t near as good or valuable, or NYI the same thing for Scott Mayfield and see what happens

Buisness move 101 you dont always sign with the team who trades for you, you explore the market as if you go to market often can get more

We have seen it with other guys

As why stay with the team who traded for you who may lowball you wen you could get the bag somewhere else.

Way to completely ignore all my valid points

Why go through all the stress and hassle, when you can do it all at once

Do you have any friggin clue how many teams are interested in Zadorov!? Go look at the AGM’s! It’s pretty much every Team in the league. There’s only 32 guys in the NHL that are over 6’2ft+ + 220lbs+ and only 3 are anything like Zadorov and they’re all older and no longer near as good = Mayfield, Chiarot and Savard

Zadorov’s rare & desirable, so let me give you a lesson on economics 101. The rarer and more scarce a good/resource is = low supply in a market Vs. the more demand for that finite good/resource, the higher the value will be.

It’s very likely there is going to be a bidding war for his services and again, why not try to negotiate an extension at the same time to see if that Team is serious and committed. Zadorov’s tired of bouncing around. The next team he plays for will be his 5th already

He’s gone, I must have made my point and there’s nothing more to see or debate here

Zadorov is perhaps the most affordable sought after D-Man in the League right now. Who else in the League is 6’6 250lbs and can pretty much do it all for under $6-8mil/yr

Definitely not and Nurse makes north of $9mil/yr

I like what I’ve seen from Dennis Gilbert, but guys I’d look at acquiring to replace Big-Z in no particular order are:

Nicholas Hague
Kevin Bahl
Logan Stanley
Sean Day

Montana Onyebuchi & Areber Xhekaj aren’t as offensive but deserve mentioning here

The next Top Big D-Men Prospects seem to be Logan Mailloux, Lian Bischel and Noah Warren, of which I imagine all of them are untouchable

Of course we have Ilya Solovyov as well, but he isn’t as Gritty or have much fighting ability like Gilbert has, but he is probably better defensively

Where is Kuznesov’s development do you think. You were high on him, but are you still!?

Kuzy hasn't developed as quickly as I'd hoped but I still have hope for him. He's a big guy and they often take longer to grow into their bodies and fully develop. Big Z is a great example of that. Z was considered very disappointing until he came to Calgary and got to play for Sutter who finally got him playing the right way.

So many posters on this site don’t realize that. They simply see that we picked him up for a 3rd when he was an RFA, so as far as they’re concerned, there’s no way he could be worth more now. Morons

Yes, and they think the undersized prospect their team took with a 2nd/3rd round pick or wasted a 1st on who had one good year in junior as a 19 year old or overaged 20 year old is a superstar worth a ton before he even plays a single game in the minors far less the NHL. Then after he fails to make their roster after several years start trying to dump him in every 2nd trade proposal while insisting he's going to be a great player worth an early 1st.
