Kastelic is a pretty replaceable player and Kubalik does nothing for Calgary. If the Flames sell Tanev will probably have decently high demand, especially if retained. I imagine the minimum price is 2 2nds and maybe even a mid-late 1st

No interest in Kastelic or Kubalik but we could be talked into taking Kubalik to balance the cap.

And yes Pinto's rights would work well for us. It'd be extra cap space until the extension runs out and a low prorated cap hit after he's re-signed.

How do they contradict each other? Smart GMs would never, ever, consider trading a mid 1st or a 23 year old two way C for someone who is only getting worse and most definitely won't be around long term.

They moved 1sts for DeBrincat and Chychrun but both were long-term plays (at the time of the trade lol). Both were 25, not 33, Tanev might get a 1st+ from a cup contender at the deadline if you're lucky. But definitely not from Ottawa

Wouldn't even consider moving Pinto and a 1st seems a bit rich. I'd consider a conditional 1st/2nd.

How is he going to get worse? He's on the final year of his contract and would be a deadline addition. He literally doesn't have a chance to age poorly, thats why it's a contradiction.

I never said anything about it having to be Ottawa that trades for him. But Tanev has been without question the best defensive defenseman in the league over the past 3 years. Hence why I said he will cost a minimum of 2 2nds.

Ottawa moved a top 10 pick for DeBrincat and #12 for Chychrun, stop grouping those picks in with picks from the 22+ range

EV defense 68% percentile in his rookie season, after missing a full year due to injury and being thrown in a tough role with purely offensive forwards. +/- is useless, you have to look at expected goals

There is absolutely no chance they would consider moving Pinto for Tanev considering they wouldn't want to move for Chychrun just a few months ago

I'd love to find a way to add Tanev but I don't see how. Ottawa has not made the playoffs yet, it would be counter-productive to trade a young player for an older player, with low term too

Kubalik + Brannstron + 2nd (Flames would keep Brannstrom and sell Kubalik themselves). I love Brannstrom and he's seriously underrated but the need is on RHD. I really want someone to play with Chabot too
