I don't know if you follow the NFL at all but on of the The Detroit Lions best WR Jameson Williams was suspended for 6 games for betting while at a team facility and it wasn't on football. It's an old rule and now that all 4 of the major sports leagues getting quite a bit of money from sports betting sites you will probably see a lot of those rules change. Jameson Williams was able to return after 4 games because the league decided that it's an outdated rule. There were a few players across the league that were betting on football and their punishment was substantially longer.

If I had to guess the suspension was probably done under the old rules or the rules before sports betting was legalized.

But that really doesn't matter because it’s still less than half a season and it really doesn’t factor in to the point I’m trying to make

Now the point I'm trying to make is that these are old rules and haven't been updated mostly because not every state has legalized sports betting and some of the states that have made it legal have different restrictions. But before 2018 betting on sports was illegal out side of a casino. In Canada I know sports betting is legal in Ontario and that is about it. So depending where he was when he placed his bets could factor into it but most apps wont’t let you place a bet in a state/province where sports betting is illegal. So I was saying he probably won’t have to serve the whole suspension and might not have to serve any suspension since he hasn’t signed yet.
