Description
***PLEASE READ FIRST***

These trades are very, very, loose estimates of what potential trade partners and value looks like. Trust me, I know your team is cap strapped and these would never happen, but this is 1000000% for fun. I didn't examine every teams cap situation, but I put a half hearted effort to make some trades to make it somewhat cap compliant. (Orlov and Doughty for example - I know those teams want to keep those guys, so don't take that too literally). Of course, this is an easy fix in a real trade (well, mathematically) and there can be third parties involved, or prior trades to clear cap.

With that said, I'm happy to hear your thoughts!

He's untouchable, but I'd say a middle 6 center like Hischier or something if I HAD to trade him

I think it would be very hard to turn down Pasta, even for 3 firsts and Orlov, you just don't trade away 60 goal scorers.

I think you wasted McAvoy and Pastrnak to some extent. If there's going to be a full-blown rebuild Orlov and Doughty aren't the guys to be targeting. Instead of Orlov, a young player or prospect would make more sense, and maybe you need to pick a different team if cap is an issue. The McAvoy trade is very bad for what you are trying to do here, a top pairing RD who is a top 6 or 7 d-man by consensus should be fetching you an A-prospect + a couple of 1sts.

Also, why keep Lindholm?

McAvoy and Pastrnak probably fetch a bit more…elite guys with tons of term. Could be franchise changers for whoever acquires them.

Agreed, although Pasta is what maybe 4 1sts or 3 and a high end prospect? Players like that just so rarely get traded. Mcavoy one is tough with the cap, I'd say 3 1sts is fair, especially considering age and contract. No clue what the Kings value doughty as.

I was mostly using picks as value gauging, the players in return are part of the salary cap work more than the actual value that they bring to the team

McAvoy turns 26 this year, he will be a ufa at 32, so his contract is great. Can definitely get 4 1sts for him as well as he's a top pairing RHD. I think with either guy you want a high-end prospect or young NHL + 3 picks unless they are being traded at the draft for a top 5+ pick.

SJ is probably a good destination for McAvoy, can take back Vlasic, and I don't think them acquiring him would automatically make them a playoff team, so the 1sts that they acquire should be valuable (of course need to have limited/no protection on some of the picks). Pastrnak to Buffalo with the number of young prospects that they have would be great but maybe they wouldn't want to take on that contract (would require sending back Skinner of course) considering that Dahlin is getting 11M already. So Seattle would be my choice, Shane Wright+picks + some roster players to make the cap work as the return.

Detroit is not going to trade for players over 30. The window of contention doesn't open for another 3-4 years yet and paying for players that won't be here then isn't going to happen.

They still play Doughty 26 min a night…so probably high.

And play Georgii

I think you’ve underestimated Pasta, McAvoy, and Carlo.

Massively overestimated Marchand (love him, but teams don’t pay a premium for players of his age)

The good news is Boston will NOT have to consider this at all,

Probably, yeah. They're prime age on good contracts, and of course elite players. I think Marchand would get a great return for a contender, there's just no cap space which makes it tough. He's on a really good contract too, a rental + another year at 6m, so perfect for a team that wants basically two chances with him.

Well said, and 100% agreed. They seem so intriguing because the teams rebuilding and stacking prospects get so much hype around them, until the prospects actually play and then people realize they have a long way to go. Detroit is a perfect example, and even Ottawa to an extent.

I'd throw Buffalo into that as well. I remember listening to Razor and Jaffe during their podcast (last year maybe) and Raycroft talked about how Colorado had started rebuilding when he was there back in 2008. So it took Colorado 14 years a few stud high-end picks in MacKinnon, Landeskog, Makar, Rantenen and some good trades to win a cup. It took them 8yrs just to become steady playoff contenders, then a few years of struggles in the playoffs before the cup came.

Exactly, and even then look at NYR... gifted the 1st and 2nd overall picks and they're 3rd line wingers. You have to tank on the right years. Rebuilding can certainly work well though, I think St. Louis is the only team in the last 15+ years to win a cup without a first or second overall pick playing for them. They did have a 4th overall though. I think that's been Boston's issue in large part. Although, JVR can change that lol.
