Primeau
I would not trade Sogaard or even Merilainen now. They are the future after Korpisalo and Forsberg. They are both young with very high potential, no point trading them now.
I wouldn't pick up Primeau on waivers, frankly I'd rather have Mandolese who looks good everytime he plays in the NHL (preseason too)
Sens also just gave up 3 of their prospects to other NHL teams for free, they don't have any other prospects to spare
Dorion is an idiot but the next GM (if it can finally happen for the love of children) will be confronted to this right away and will be careful with picks and prospects going forward
So instead of paying anything to move Joseph (who is actually valuable, despite the CF narrative), I just trade Kubalik for a pick and sign Pinto.
Quoting: Burnout
I don't think there's any scenario where the Senator's get off to a slow start and Joseph is able to increase his value to the point he's not a negative asset. He's played one small stretch of games where he earned his contract, plus the issue is the term as much as the AAV.
Joseph has actually a long history of being worth his contract. Elite PK metrics, great ES defensive metrics, even underrated ES production. For example, in his rookie season, he scored 13 ES goals in 70 games with barely over 10 ES minutes per game (mostly been stuck in Tampa's depht). Suzuki and Anderson scored 16 ES goals last season (for example)
More recent? He scored 10 ES + 2 SH goals in 69 games in 2021-22, 11 ES goals in 56 games in 2020-21 (on the Habs, for example, only Toffoli and Anderson scored more ES goals than him that season)
