I don't think the cap rises to 89.5 by next season, probably around 86-87.5

Then I take back my title and the GM is going to need to find a way to dump Panarin if we aren't going to ice an embarrassing team

Yeah, you're not unloading that contract to anyone and he had a hell of a season last year. Just crapped the bed come playoff time. Gotta hope he comes back stronger.

Potential blessing in disguise, we are terrible and tank for a high pick. Trade Igor, and anyone else without a full NMC (Trouba, Goodrow and Trocheck). Scratch Panarin until he decides to waive his NMC and then retain and get rid of his contract. Build around Fox, Miller, Lindgren, Schneider, Kakko, Laf and Chytil. Keep Mika and Kreider as a veteran presence. This team isn’t winning as currently constructed and that much is a fact. Opens up room for the kids to see if they sink or swim and let the younger ones have potential opportunities should they seize it.

Honestly no he didn't have a great season. He only had like a dozen goals up until he went on a semi-hot streak in February. That's awful for a 12m man. I genuinely am afraid that the Rangers won't win a Cup until he's gone

I don't even want a high pick (meaning top 10) because this org will just f*** it up anyways. Give me mid to late first rounders all day everyday though, those turn out amazing for us. I'm honestly fine with most of the team aside from Panarin. I personally love Goodrow, Trochek, and Trouba it's that money is the issue there. Luckily in Trouba's case, Schneider will be in prime form to slot in his spot once the current deal is up and Goodrow can be easily bought out if nothing else. But Trochek should have never been signed (Drury f***ed over Chytil by doing that) and Panarin definitely should have never been signed.

That doesn't seem like a good trade for Boston to make. Goodrow's contract is not good (i.e., as an asset he has negative value unless he plugs a true need on a contender), Dobber has those prospects trending as low-end NHL regulars (i.e., they are only worth lower-end picks at this time), and I think the Bruins would see Trocheck as more of a consolation prize 2C than as a true top 6 C target. I think the Bruins would rather hold onto their 1st round picks for a bigger fish or try to draft their way out of their center mess.

Personally I don't, and here's why:

1) I think the org is getting out of the business of trading captains like they did in the past with Callahan and McDonagh

2) Trouba, while overpaid, is one of the only people on the team to show an ounce of effort when it counts. He hates to lose and it's obvious. When you have people who are just there for their paycheck and don't care about winning, I think it's important to hang onto the guys w/ heart. Which is why Kreider will also never be traded

3) By the time Trouba's contract is up, Braden Schneider will be about 25 and in prime form to take his spot and slot in seamlessly

Now, I don't know if they are going to re-sign Trouba after the current deal, but I don't think they are getting rid of him anytime soon

This is probably the worst suggested thing on this site in a while. If they scratched Panarin into forcing him to waive his NMC not a single free agent would sign in NY and agents would get their young players out as soon as possible. Treating an All-Star like that would be the easiest way to make sure nobody wants to go near your franchise.

Oh don't get me wrong, 12 million should ABSOLUTELY get you clutch, and he wasn't that at all. I don't disagree with your fear either. I just don't see how y'all can move that contract. I think you take the 92 point season for what it is and hope that he can deliver next year. And yes, hope is not the word you want with a 12 million dollar dude.

Not when you're paying a guy that much. I totally get the frustration. From an outside perspective, you either have to have hope for the next three seasons or you need to buy him out and eat the salary. I don't think any team in the league is trading for that contract.

Yeah Trocheck has been good, but it was an incredibly stupid move. Panarin was not smart given the team was trying to rebuild. Rushing that was beyond stupid.

I’d cross that bridge when we got there. If he actually played like he cared when it counts in the playoffs this wouldn’t even be a topic of conversation. And look at what Tampa did to McDonagh, they were gonna put him on waivers if he didn’t waive. Team success is the priority.

I think if they ate $3.5-4 mil and he only cost $7.7-8.2 mil he’d be moveable. Personally could care less about the return as my goal is freeing up a roster spot in the top 6 and cap flexibility.

Fair enough. There's a few teams with some room for that. This was not a contract that I thought would sour this quickly if I'm honest.

Not if you score over a PPG and they throw you to the street line ur trash. If they treated an All-Star that bad they could/would treat everyone else even worse.

I get that and I know it’s a bit different for defenseman, but 90+ point players don’t grow on trees or basically force their way to a specific team the way he and Fox did. Panarin also has 20 points in 30 playoff games it’s not like he does nothing. It would be a stain on the franchise to force him out whether anyone disagrees or not it would be a giant story and the players association would also probably get involved and it would turn players off from the idea of playing there

Notice how that would never happen to any All Star who actually does their job? We aren't paying him 12m to score less than 30 goals in the regular season and do NOTHING - be a liability actually - in the playoffs. And plenty of great players on the Rangers will never be at risk of that happening to them. Fox, Zibanejad, Kreider, Trouba. In fact no one is in as bad of a position as Panarin currently. If other guys saw what happened to him and got scared = good. It's sending a message that you can't underperform and only care about chasing a paycheck to the detriment of the team and get away with it. I'm not suggesting that the Rangers do this. A better method would be to find a desirable location for him to end up in and end the relationship on positive terms. But, if the Rangers did do this, Panarin would have no one to blame but himself.

Yeah I guess I just don’t see this but anything other than a massive overreaction lol the guy had back to back 90+ point regular seasons and had a good run in the 2022 playoffs. Ur not replacing Panarin with anyone even remotely comparable without 1 spending a fortune 2 going over the cap and then you also have to get Panarin to waive and find a team that he would 1 want to go to 2 being able to handle his cap hit 3 be in a position to make the trade for that player contention wise.

This situation just screams “you don’t know what you got til it’s gone”
