The Ducks trade essentially boils down to Gibson for Future considerations.
Silverberg is good for 30 points and DeBrusk 50 this season, then both turn UFA and neither would resign with Anaheim. So yeah, that is an upgrade for Anaheim but a small one of very short duration when it comes to the two forwards.
If Anaheim's only goal is to get out from under Gibson's contract then FC's coming back is about par for the course these days. But if that was the plan he'd be traded already (IMO). The fact he's still in Anaheim means Verbeek wants real assets that will benefit the team. Not to mention the Ducks would need a starter for 60+ games and the options for that aren't great. DeSmith? Pass, he's a backup at best. Campbell? I'm sure Edmonton would love to dump that contract but then the Ducks are right back where they started contract-wise.
I don't see that trade working for Anaheim. Next summer is the earliest I can see Gibson moving.
