Sure. My thought is, as they look to become contenders, they might like some cost certainty, rather than overpaying Boeser or simply losing him for nothing or non-roster assets. What do we think about Boeser earning $7m+ on his next deal???
being able to allow brock to walk away adn replace him with some one younger should be viewed as a benefit, not a detraction.
look at the way tampa has been able to turn over its roster and extend young players by allowing guys to move on as free agents. killorn, palat, cole, rutta, coleman, goodrow all walk as free agents, plus tyler johnson, yanni gourde, and ryan mcdonogh all let go as well. this has allowed them to extend point, sergachev, cirelli, cernal, and now hagel as well. core players, like kucherov, stamkos, hedman, vasilevsky, all get paid. but supplemental guys need to be replaced regularly. guys like boeser, garland, mikheyev, kuzmenko, cole, soucey, beavillier, etc. all need to be viewed this way by van. players who do the job now and then are replaced later by younger players on cheaper deals.
