Hughes publicly stated that their Goaltenders are available for trade. Just to accumulate more picks. HABS have the luxury to do so. If this trade would go through, they would also move Allen and keep Capbell as a backup until Jacob Fowler could make the league in a couple of years. HABS have 4 years left on their 5 year rebuilding plan and this still fits that plan

He's not worth his cap hit, ergo he's a dump. If Montreal was offered a 1st and refused the whole front office should be terminated. tears of joy

I honestly have a hard time believing someone offered a first for a 3rd liner with a 5.5 mil cap hit and a career high of 47 points like 5 years ago, which he hasn't even come close too since... if that is true, then Hughes shouldn't be a general manager because he'll never get an offer like that again

For the record, I really don't wanna move him but he should be fairly easy to move and we have an overload of NHL contracts at most positions now.

Have people on this site not learned that players with size pretty much never lose value. Foligno, Rick Nash, the examples are endless of guys being moved for 1st round picks before playoffs because they're tall. The NHL has moved forward, not enough to realize when players are kinda useless though

If anything, GM's learned not to recreate that Foligno trade. I have to agree with the general consensus. If Hughes was offered a 1st for Anderson and turned it down, he should be fired into the sun

They haven't learned though, hell Ben Chariot is another example and that was two years ago, last year Tanner Jeannot got a giant return.

In the end, he will likely still get a 1st a couple years from now. Cap will have gone up, if he's healthy he will still be useful and some contender will offer up a 1st for a 'big playoff body'. Even if he is 32 or whatever

Tanner Jeannot got a draft class return because the summer prior Nashville helped Tampa alleviate cap by taking on McDonagh so they could sign their guys. Tampa had to pay them for it.

All I'm saying is if he turned down a first for Anderson he's not getting it again. He is not that good of a player.

Not a chance Habs do this IMO. 4 years of 5M for two probably late 2nds? Not worth it. That type of return could be had for cheaper asset management.

....And just for the record, I would take Anderson over Campbell any day of the week too. I can only guess but I would bet so would NHL gm's.

Those guys are exceptions though, not the rule. And none of your examples had 4 years left at $5.5M.

So there's an exception every year but Josh Anderson will never be that exception? Like come on, NHL GMs are an old boys club and love big guys who skate fast. Doesn't matter if they can barely pass or stick handle, if they're over 6 feet and can keep up, GMs will pay for them

Its more about the famous "intangible" he brings in a line-up. Big power forward bring a different threat to a team's offense.

He was also injured.

And what definite good players? Because he isn’t a top 10 scorer he isn’t good players. Is contribution goes way beyond the scoresheet. He is a tremendous teammate, he is a horse, he is a elite skater, he demolish opposition night after night. Anderson had 26 hit against the leafs in their cup run. Most of them against Muzzin or Rielly. Thats a stats that ain’t look at but the impact that he have is real. He is overpaid for sure but he is a good players. I am just curious of the standard you use to evaluate players.

Playoffs 20-21 87 hits, probably end muzzin career.
Or ask Rasmus Dahlin about Anderson .

Exactly - YES, he is overpayed by maybe 1.5 to 2M$ - at 3M$ he would be considered a stud. Just like guys like Jordan Greenway, Charlie Coyle etc...

Big body that skate fast, hit hard, shoot, forecheck, backcheck, and handle and dish out the playoff violence.

The problem is that the cap has not increased significally because of covid -which makes the 5.5M look worse than it is. Also, he was one season removed from a 27 goal season when he signed that contract.

This is exact, when they sign him they expected the cap to continue to rise. Next year this contract will already be more affordable.
