Doubt Chicago is interested though. Only way they could spin this was if they added Zaitsev or something. But then MTL wouldn't accept.

Zero chance Chicago entertains that. You want to move Petry at his full cap hit to Chicago, pay them.

Habs won't since they have more than enough cap space for him (over 800 million according to this capfriendly team) if Chicago declines.

Petry is definitely worth the asking price to the right team but Chicago is not that team.

How do you suppose that you get paid to take on his full contract but then immediately flip him for positive value? ...and you aren't even retaining... If Petry could be moved at his full cap hit for positive value, PIT would've done it.

Oh! There we go! MTL made out like bandits in this whole series of trades, from taking on his contract to moving him to DET just a few minutes ago. That is an insane return, not to mention what they got for him from PIT in the first place last summer. But, as I said, they did have to retain 50%.

Thank god I never have to see Petry in a hawks jersey for the rest of my days
