Hawks decline. Suter is obviously a cap dump with a contract that pays him more in actual salary than his cap hit over the last 2 years. Stranges isn't that interesting any longer. Hawks would probably want ar least a 2nd in place of that 5th, and maybe another pick in place of Stranges.

Considering Suter was part of one of the largest “buyouts” in league history because the Wild felt they needed a culture change says a lot. If I’m the Hawks I stay as far away from him as I can, you want the right veterans influencing your next generation of young players.

I don't really see why Montreal or Chicago would consider this.

Montreal wanted Hoffman gone because they had too many forwards, now they're adding salary for a foward they don't have a roster spot for? For a 2nd and a 3rd? Petry may be in decline, but he's still a big right shot D with a half p/gp, averages over 22 minutes a night, and has significant playoff experience. If he's offered at an AAV of under 2.5 mil and an even lower real salary, he'll have more value than a cap dump with term and a late 2nd and 3rd. Montreal's better off keeping him if that's the best offer on the table with retention.

Suter has a 35+ contract, a full NMC and more salary on his contract than cap hit. Assuming he'd waive to go to Chicago (and why would he?), Chicago would REALLY have to like Stranges to consider that.

Suter will be FORTY years old by the time those last 2 years where he is owed 8.6 real dollars finish. Nothing even remotely interesting in this proposal.

Counteroffer is Ryczek + Colin Blackwell for Suter (18% retained) + Kyrou + '24 2nd Hawks clear 2 contracts and a little money with Blackwell. Kyrou I could see possibily playing in the NHL as a PP2/bottom pairing guy where I don't see much of a chance Stranges finds a role in the NHL. 2nd at least has some odds of being an actual NHL player where a 5th realistically does not. Goning to take something of interest to move Suter.

Joel Edmundson was a barely replacement level player when he got traded. Petry was one of the better defensive d men in the league and has offensive upside. Im not trading him until a 1st rounder is offered minimum
