That leaves Matthews, Bertuzzi, Samsonov, Liljegren, Pesce, Klingberg (yuck), Robertson, Roslovic and Domi as pending free agents. That leaves Knies, Tavares, Marnr and McCabe as the only siginfigant players left, all of whom are two years out. You want your 2025 1st to be gone? You want to have to re sign the entire roster in the next two years with a below average prospect pool? I guess its fine cuz if matthews leaves ur screwed anyways but Id think itd be nice to get someone with term, even with a bit higher of a price so you could have options

Why are the Ducks buying two bottom 6 forwards we don't need?

Calgary would have zero interest in TK or Atkinson if they are trading Lindholm. Also thats a horrible trade for them

From now and the TLD, if your not trying to lose Lindholm for nothing, there really isn't a C the caliber of Lindholm on the market. And if Conroy wants ''win now'' pieces, they get TK, a feisty winger capable of scoring 30 (who knows alongside Huberdeau), and Atkinson, when healthy still a solid 20-goal guy..

Anaheim probably isn't the destination for both, maybe Lafferty with Lundestrom out for half the year..

That 1st was already gone in the McCabe deal, fair point tho..

Most star players on the market don't have much term and if they do, contract (right now) is unreasonable and would be hard for the Leafs to fit in. Tough spot..
Leafs gotta hope cap goes up 3-4 million, that way they probably have 22-25 million after AM and Lindholm signed for everyone else. With the Leafs likely signing most guys long-term after this year, they probably have a good idea of how their cap situation look over the next 4-8 years.

I honestly feel the only thing holding the Canes back is another bonafide star..

The Hurricanes turn one rental into another, and they have the talent pool to mortgage a few picks..
Adding a game breaker like Nylander on top of their ELITE top-9 and D, don't think there's anyone in the East stopping that

Canes aren’t going to consider that drastic overpayment for Nylander. He definitely isn’t getting more than what Eichel returned.

??

It's not even close to what Eichel got, BUF got an A level prospect, A T6 forward w/term on a bargain deal, a 1st which turned into a lottery selection, and a 2nd...

Both Pesce and Willy are likely 1 year rentals anyway, and CAR adds a bonafide star to put them over the top. They have the talent pool to mortgage picks and have an already ELITE D (Orlov, Pesce, Skjei, Burns, etc) to move Pesce

I agree that they need a game breaker but the return is not quite what I'd like... I'd rather do something in the realm of what either Horvat (A roster player, a prospect, and a first) or change the prospect that's going to Toronto

Seeing how we wouldn’t pay his next contract, that is far too much for a 1 year rental.

Yeah, if he comes dirt cheap maybe, more likely we grab a remaining free agent or one of the kids in San Diego gets a shot like Groulx or Gawdin.

"BIG changes", no BAD changes.
Canes aren't giving up so much for one year of Nylander.
Leafs don't need Lindholm, and signing him to an eight year deal when it starts at almost age 30 is horrendous for any GM to make.
Jarnkrok doesn't waive to Ducks
Doubt if non playoff western conference Blues is on Brodie trade list. Leafs say no thanks to Leddy anyways.

If it's a sign and trade for Nylander then I think the Hurricanes might pull the trigger on it otherwise the Hurricanes aren't usually in the market for very expensive rentals

Sorry bud....there isn't really such a thing as a sign and trade in Nylanders's and Leafs circumstances.
Can you think of one, just one instance where a Cup Contender team (Leafs in this ) allowed a star player to negotiate with another team, one year away from his contract ended.
Doesn't happen especially when the Leafs have to the conversation with Nylander.
"We want your sorry ass off of this team, so hurry up and sign a negotiate and sign a contract with the Canes so we can trade you. And if you can't come to an agreement, you welcome back to the Leaf family for a Cup run.

Exactly that's why I don't think that Nylander to the Hurricanes is reasonable

1 year of Nylander is not worth more than what Eichel returned. Just because they have the capability to mortgage their future, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to do so. I mean, they literally just drafted Unger Sorum, so by trading him not even 2 months after drafting, you might as well tell any draftee that they can’t trust the organization that drafts them. Not a good long term outlook.

As for the rest of the trade, it’s still a vast overpayment. No reason to overpay for Nylander when the Canes can’t afford to keep him.

Right so then the Flames center depth is Kadri, Zary, Ruzicka, Rooney? Yeah great plan
