This trade certainly is interesting. I don't think TOR is this desperate. They can find better ways get cap complaint.

The melt down in Leafs land would be epic if they acquired Chiarot.

I think they are looking for a Jake Muzzin replacement... Brodie is a strong steady D... But much of the same type of player.

Would DET consider $1M of retention with this deal? That would make it less desperate I think... If Chiarot was surrounded with the talent of TOR, I think he would provide better D, and a simpler game... like he did in MTL/WPG

Detroit has no use for a 33 year old rental.

Our prospects on RD are at least two and probably three years away from making an impact in the NHL. That's why we have Holl for three years and Chiarot for three years.

Our prospects on LD are banging on the door to the NHL. That's why we have Ghost on an expiring deal so that he can be traded at the TDL.

Ghost was signed as an UFA, for the specific purpose to be a stop-gap until the TDL and then be dealt for a profit. Brodie is costing us, in this deal, more than we would get back at the TDL if we tried to trade him and we'd have nothig to replace him with if we did trade him.

The cost to dump Chiarot is a 2nd... so here, you are basically getting Brodie for free... Leafs don't do this but Detroit would

I was under the impression that the Chiarot deal is dead weight for Detroit. So the idea here was you get out from the Chiarot deal, Gain a solid Dman on an expiring deal that you could even resign for less on a decent deal considering he is from the area. The Leafs insulate Chiarot with a better, veteran high skilled group so that ALL he has to do is clear the front of the net and send it out of the zone up the glass. I think the Leafs would find value, and so could the Wings here

And the Oilers don't need to dump Nurse... doesn't make either one less of a cap dump

Chiarot is not dead weight. He fills spot where we currently have no other. Brodie would also fill that spot but we'd be out of a 2nd round pick which makes this a bad deal for us.

The only cap dump here is Brodie. It's Toronto that is over the cap not Detroit.

Oh... So according to your logic, that makes everyone on Toronto a cap dump right? BC they are over the cap? And the Seth Jones contract a steal bc Chicago has cap?

Chiarot's worse than Brodie and has term... He's the dump, it's going to cost a 2nd to dump him and prob a 2nd/3rd to acquire Brodie based on how he plays and the value he could bring to a team like EDM

The very definition of a cap dump is a player that is traded in order to save cap cost.

Saving cap is the ONLY reason this trade is being proposed.

That makes Brodie a cap dump.

If that little bit of reasoning is too complicated for you then neither I nor anyone else can help you.

Cap dump is someone who's overpaid and not valuable... and cost assets to move him

Chiarot has negative value, but Detroit doesn't need to dump his contract, so they won't pay to do so. Simple as that.
Toronto *NEEDS* to do something, so any trade they make will likely wind up below market value for them. How is this a hard concept to grasp?

Get that... But the other guy was saying Chiarot wasn't a cap dump which isn't true

The leafs dont even save money and massively down grade the position while adding significant term.
