You can certainly argue that Schmid had a better playoff run last spring than Hellebuyck. Even if Schmid's shortened NHL season in 22/243 he was solid.

The extension is the part I would not want to see the Devils pay for. How many extensions of players before they even play for the team blow up in a team's face? Looking over at Huberdeau as the latest big example.

The fact Hellebuyck has so many miles on him doesn't help the case as he started so young.

He's a great goalie now, but there are prices way too high to pay an "extension" rate.

Detroit wouldn't consider that at all. Kasper and ASP are from major positions of need. Connor isn't, and Demelo's a 30 year old rental.
