Nobody here is saying the Jets should give Hellebuyck away for nothing though, you're fighting a strawman there. The issue everyone has with your comments is with your ignorance regarding Edmonton's players. The simple fact is that a 24 year old goalie with a .914 sv% is already an overpay for a rental 30 year old who has a .920 sv% and ridiculous contract demands for his next deal.
Ryan McLeod had a better scoring rate at 5v5 than Dubois last season. Foegele had a better scoring rate at 5v5 than any Jets forward except Ehlers. Yet these things are "plugs" to you?
Just stop, you're only digging a hole.
Sure you are. Why are you so in favour of this deal? Because you know the Oilers are robbing the Jets.
Skinner is alright, but I wouldn't want the Jets overpaying based on 50 games. There's a very good chance that now that players have a book on Skinner, he turns into Binnington.
Hellebuyck won't be traded as a rental before the season, I know that and you know that. You're just using that as your straw man to justify a lowball offer. If you want Helle, you'll need to pay an extended price. Whether Helle world extend in Edmonton, I don't know.
McLeod will be 24 when the season starts and has 138 games and 45 points to his name. A solid 27 point producer. Again you know and I know, players like McLeod are a dime a dozen, with a value of around a 3rd or less. I don't blame you for trying to sell high on him, but GM's see him for what he is. A 3rd/4th line plug.
Foegele a 29 point a year rental. No value to Winnipeg.
Take off the Edmonton goggles and evaluate the players you're giving up objectively and you'd see the term 'plugs" is very apt.
As I said when you're giving up 5 pieces to try and get 1, you know the 5 pieces are relatively worthless.
The Jets would opt for a 1st at least one quality young piece as opposed to a 1st and stuff you are willing to part with because you know they haven't lived up to their potential and/or you just don't want anymore. Trades don't work like that.
