Even if the hawks wanted to go this route, which they don't, the hawks get hosed in all these trades.

1 year of Nylander isn't worth korchinski. And if Nylander wants that ridiculous contract his value should be even lower.

1 year of hanifin isn't worth 2 firsts.

Gibson sucks. His contract is terrible. He has negative value.

Has to be one of the worst AGM I have seen . Just dumped two horrible contracts ( Kane , Toews ) and you want to pick up 3 assuming Hawks resign Nylander 10m , Hanifin 8m plus Gibson . How do you plan on paying Bedard in 3 yrs . All you have done is give away picks and depth and the teams future . This is not a cup contending roster .

A lot of overly dramatic responses to this ACGM. Does Chicago really want Bedard to run out his ELC losing for 3 seasons? 6 seasons?

Trading a few picks and prospects isn't going to cripple the rebuild.

lol. Yes... Sacrifice a huge chunk of CHI's future, and arguably some of their most important assets, one year into a rebuild because Bedard is on an ELC... Great advice. Thanks for the tip. We are definitely just being dramatic if we disagree.

How are things going up in Calgary? Sounds like everyone loves playing there. I guess the thing to do during year 2 of a rebuild is trade 2 of your top 4 prospects, a 1st round pick, and 4 2nd round picks. Yeah that makes total sense. We should probably also trade Bedard for 2 30+ year old players and a 4th round pick.

I mean, this is a strawman argument at worst, and just hyperbolic at best. Calgary's poor asset management has nothing to do with this ACGM. If you draft a generational talent, it is probably prudent to make him want to stay. The kid gre up in North Vancouver, arguably one of the most beautiful and liveable cities in the world. His favourite team is the Canucks. How long before he tires of losing in Chicago? It's not the worst city, but it sure isn't the best. Hanifin is 26 and Nylander is 27. Chicago has tons of cap space. It doesn't have to be the trades above, but tanking for 5 years is a good way to want players to leave (or just toiling in mediocrity for 20 years).

This is literally the 2nd offseason of the rebuild. And the first one was just dumping the dead weight of the last regime. Can you give a brother a chance to rebuild? The goal is a Stanley Cup, not never ending years of mediocrity like the Canucks have had. Why is everyone so quick to end the rebuild after 1 season? Stay away from my team.

The Blackhawks have been rebuilding since 2018. Just because you intentionally tanked last year doesn't mean "the rebuild" just started. Buffalo has been rebuilding for over a decade and Eichel had enough after 6 years. Arizona has been rebuilding and digressing for a decade as well. Conversely, Colorado and the Leafs were able to rebuild quickly. Hanifin and Nylander are both young enough to be part of the rebuild. It's not like Chicago will instantly be be out of the draft lotto. They will however, allow them to not be so utterly terrible that your franchise center starts questioning why the best years of his life are being wasted.

"Stay away from my team"?
Lmfao....I'll let the entirety of cap friendly know not to use Chicago in ACGMs so it doesn't upset you.

Bedard hasn't even played a game, we are entering year two of a rebuild, and you are already talking about "him getting fed up with losing and wanting to leave". Calm your tits. CHI has 8 years of control over him, and the rebuild shouldn't take that long. He has actually made comments about the position CHI is in and how cool it is to be part of a "ground up" rebuild. So, he obviously knows what he is in for. Why are you worried about that anyway? Are you a CHI fan?

Do you not understand the definition of a rebuild in sports? What the Hawks did the past several years can better be described as "retooling". Bringing in known quantities attempting to improve the team. What they are doing now is rebuilding. Trading away known quantities to acquire future assets to improve the team down the road.

Since the 2017-2018 season the Blackhawks only made the playoffs once. Retooling still implies selling off assets and acquiring younger players. Just because davidson went into full tank mode, doesnt mean that the previous years weren't spent acquiring draft capital and picks. Since that season, they have drafted
2018: 8th overall, 27th overall
2019: 3rd overall
2020:17th overall (playoff year)
2021: 12th overall
2022: 6th overall
2023: 1st overall

The Seth Jones trade was obviously a blunder and overpayment, but it doesn't negate the fact that Chicago had been acquiring younger talent and drafting high for years. They picked up their top two Cs this year which is typically what takes teams so long to acquire. If Colorado can turn their rebuild around in 3 years, there is no reason that Chicago couldn't with Bedard and Moore. Especially since none of the trades above cost them their future firsts. They can't win the lotto next year anyways.

I still don't think you understand the difference between Rebuild and Retool.

"In a rebuild, you’re getting rid of your core players — often ones who are good, but can’t help your team in its current form — by trading them to contending teams looking to push themselves over the edge."
Debrincat, Dach, Kane, McCabe, Lafferty, Carpenter, Hagel, etc. Those players were traded for draft picks to Rebuild.

Retooling - "This is the part where you start to give up assets to get young players in return who can help you in the here and now and hopefully still have potential to improve."
Seth Jones - Traded Boqvist (prospect) + 1st + 2nd + swap of 1sts
Andrew Shaw - Traded 2nd + 3rd
Maatta - Kahun + 5th

Bowman never committed to a rebuild. He was always half in/half out. He would sell a few players for picks or prospects, then turn around and blow it all on a bust. Bowman was never truly rebuilding. He was just trying to stay competitive (poorly). I know you won't agree here. But it wasn't until KD took over that the Blackhawks Organization verbally and actually committed to a rebuild.

I don't think you're familiar with the phrase "splitting hairs" If that's your logic, Anaheim isn't rebuilding: they are just retooling because Henrique, Silverberg, Fowler, Strome, are all still on the roster. Conversely, Chicago has nobody left to trade out that isn't young. Seth Jones isn't gonna be moved for more than was required to get him. By that logic, the rebuild is over unless Chicago acquires UFAs and sells them off. Similarly Dach and Debrincat were both young but were moved out for futures. At the end of the day it is just asset management, and the amount of time required to get back in contention. Even with Hanifin and Nylander, the Blackhawks would still be picking in the top ten. It doesn't have to be the trades above, but acquiring players still in their prime has value and retention if they need to be traded later on.
