That is a huge stretch. If CHI is better than they were this past season, it is by a very small margin. CHI will still have a top 10, likely top 5 pick, in the 2024 draft. They still have way too much work to do before this rebuild is anywhere near complete and they actually start trending up.

Not really. We had Kane Domi Toews McCabe and Lafferty last year, as well as other decent and/or experienced LHD that have actually played full seasons in the NHL before. This year we are missing all of those things. If Bedard and Reichel can replace Kane and Domi's production in their first full NHL seasons, then CHI will be close to the same as last season. If our young LHD can play effectively and consistently at the NHL level, that will give us an even better shot. Also, Hall Perry Johnson and Foligno will have to reignite some of their high end skill from their younger years to be difference makers in the top 9, which is a long shot and all of them have been in bottom 6 roles for the last few seasons. That is A LOT of things that have to go right in order for CHI to be as good or better than they were last year.

We also have to consider the improvements of the teams within our division. AZ will be better, St Louis could be better, who knows with the Jets, MIN will likely be as good or better, DAL will be good, and we play all of them 5 times each. That is more than a quarter of the season of potential loses. Then the juggernaut eastern conference that will likely dominate CHI, which is another almost half of the season of pontentially lost games.

I don't see it either. But coming in last place is absolutely not out of the question. One player is not going to win CHI games. Everyone needs to pump the breaks. Bedard is absolutely an amazing player to have, especially in a rebuild, but he isn't going to put us out of the top 5, even if he puts up 90+ points.
