Any trade for the Wild has to be dollar in, dollar out. They cannot afford to take on ANY additional cap without making additional trades. They'd obviously make the additional trades if the player was worth it, but Petry is not that player.

Not the worst EK65 deal I've seen, however as the Pens I really don't want to be tied to a 33 year old defenseman at 8,000,000 hit for the next 4 years. I get that it can help keep the window open and better shot for a bit longer, but its a huge risk to the point where the reward is what possibly making it out of Round1?

As a pens fan. I’d trade a lot for one last ride with this core. Karlsson instantly opens our window back up for at least a year. That’s worth EVERYTHING to me.

And also, EK would be the youngest member of the core in pittsburgh. I don’t think it’s HIS age that would be most concerning. The rest of the core would also be quite underpaid, offsetting his contract.

When we suck, we will suck hard. That’s been the plan the whole time. Stick to it.

My thing is does it really open up the window as much as we believe it will? Karlsson is often injured last year was his first time playing 82 in 7 seasons. Also, he isn't good defensively. While he is amazingly gifted offensively, his defense takes away from that gift.

The more I think about it the more I agree with Tyler Kennedy. Karlsson is not a proven winner 14 years missed the playoffs 8 times of the 6 times he's made it to the playoffs he has gotten past the first round half of the time.

Just don't like the idea of giving up everything for one guy who maybe moves a forward a step when we need like 5 or 6 steps.

Minnesota’s not taking cap like that. Goligoski isn’t waiving for AZ.

More than that…they pretty much need more $$ out on any trade they would/could consider.

I actually think Pitt is the perfect landing spot for EK. They have no real choice but to go all in with the remaining useful years of the Crosby, Makkin, Letang era. Regardless of what they do or don’t do, they are looking at a monster rebuild in 2-4 years anyway.

this deal probably needs a bit more like a condition that 2nd can turn into a 1st or another prospect. SJ already has a lot of LDs so would prefer other prospects. I'd say add poulin or smith

I’ve been thinking Blomqvist would be a good trade chip. Pens are committed now to jarry long term. SJ has had weak goaltending for a while now. Could be an ideal top prospect to trade

Can you better help me understand Minnesota's cap situation?
Let's set aside that Goligoski won't waive for ARZ - you're right (creating a fantasy where he enjoyed playing there and doesn't mind going back and playing a bigger role)

Minnesota has 8 mill left and needs to sign: Addison, Duhaime & Gustavson + another starting forward (Rossi?)

Upgrade RHD (trying to replace Dumba) by removing Goligoski & adding Petry & 4.25M = net 2.25
Can Addison sign a 2 yr deal and expire RFA? (2x3m?)
What does a Gustavson deal look like (???)
Duhaime 800k?
Rossi 800k

7.2/8.2 and no Gustavson signing yet so I guess that's the issue right?

Is it too early to dump Fleury? Can Fleury be dumped? Back to Chicago for free assuming they deadline flip him at 50%?The you get 4.5

Fleury has a full NMC and has gone on record as saying he's only playing in Minnesota this year.

Aside from that, this ACGM probably paints the picture of what Minnesota is dealing with: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4436056
