As soon as I saw the Hayes trade, and knowing STL had three 1sts, I thought maybe they might flip him in a deal like this.

Since STL already have Krug and Leddy playing on the left side, and Perunovich on the cusp, the last thing they need is an offensive LHD to the roster, they're stacked with those already.
