Report that the Capitals are in talks with Ottawa

Description
EF reports that the Capitals and the Senators are in trade talks regarding Tom Wilson, the report is not specific on what the capitals are looking for in return so I am just going to add what I think is fair and what I would want for Wilson.

Again this is what I WOULD WANT as a caps fan, trying to make them relatively close to what I think fair value is. Ottawa fans might not be thrilled with the price, but I think Wilson gets a roster player, prospect and a first or a couple high end young guys.

Explanation for every trade: Ottawa is staked with Young Centers and Greig can take Pinto's spot in the line up or they can move Giroux to the middle and figure it out from there. Crookshank and Guenette are there to even out the value. The retention on Wilson increases his value (only one year of retention).

For the Kuzy trade, Zuccerllo is the cap causality for the wild, and the capitals are happy to add Marat to their prospect pool.

Lastly, the Ducks are far from the Cap Floor and need to take on some money, Mantha gets them a guy that can play in their lineup for this season and gets them some money spent, Comtois and the Ducks have been looking like they have been falling away from one another for a season now.

I think OTT would be insanely stupid to give up much of anything for Wilson. He's a good player, but oft-injured and a rental for them.

They have a log jam at center, do you think Pinto will remain content as the third line center? I would believe he would want the opportunity to be in the top 6 and Stutzle and Norris are both in front of him in Ottawa. I agree Pinto is a hell of a player but I can't see him remaining a third liner.

Fair, it is easier to become a winger than a center.

Alot of short-sighted Sens fans will say no right away to any Pinto trade. But I personally would say yes to this. Got Timmy and Norris locked up long term as 1C and 2C , and Grieg is a natural Center who could fit in that 3C to replace Pinto. Sens need a solid Top 6 winger to replace Cat and fill out depth, and Wilson fits that perfectly and adds toughness which Ottawa lacks. Having Brady and Wilson together would be chaos for other teams and Wilson will help carry the load of fighting so Brady doesn't have to risk it anymore. Ottawa would want to have an extension in place for Wilson though if they are willing to give up Pinto.

"Lastly, the Ducks are far from the Cap Floor and need to take on some money"

That just isnt true. Terry and Zegras both need new deal, so does Drysdale

We will also need to sign/acquire around 3 NHL defenseman, a back up goalie and at least 1-2 forwards

And the Ducks are not a cap ceiling team, they have an internal budget.

Mantha is negative value, and a big negative value. 5.7M cap hit but his actual salary is 6.5M he will take more than a 1st to just get rid of the contract.

Ducks very easily and quickly decline and tell WSH to get lost

Also current 3rd > a second 3 drafts from now, so you actually have the Ducks giving up the 2 most valuable assets here lmao

Pretty easy for the caps to just keep mantha instead of doing any sort of deal, I would imagine as a ducks fan you would want Comtois gone though.

A lot of us want to see Comtois play for a real head coach first. It's just a question of contract and will Verbeek give him that chance.

LOL what? Shift Norris to the Wing. Keep the cheap contracts and retain your youth long term rather than trade for a fragile, 29 year old on an expiring contract... Keep the depth rather than spend it all on 1 guy at the draft.

If the Sens are in a position to win at the deadline, I can understand a move like this. But this is non-sensical.

Fragile??? He had one injury and he recovered from it to play a good amount of games towards the end of the season last year, I would say he is the opposite of Fragile and he is also in his prime, so I don't quite know where you are headed with your accusation. In all honesty I would rather keep Wilson, but if he is traded that is the package I would expect.

Of course you would. Because it's an incredibly lopsided trade in favor of WSH. 3 young assets for 1 aging one.

What accusation? I like Wilson's game! I'm not saying he's bad, I'm saying there is a huge risk in trading 3 cost controlled assets for an expiring physical forward coming off a serious knee injury and procedure. He loses his speed and he's done in the top 6. This has Milan Lucic 2.0 written all over it.

Friedman said on 32 thoughts like a week ago that Wilson isn't moving, and he heard that straight from the organization. Wilson isn't going anywhere, Jason York is an idiot

LOL calling Wilson fragile, clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. Guy is as tough as they come and has only had one major injury which he just came back from and played well with decent numbers. Guenette and Crookshank are young assets that aren't worth much at all (5th and 7th rounders). They will be AHLers barely cracking NHL rosters their whole careers. This doesn't affect Senator's depth at all when they have guys like Thompson/JBD/Kleven all above Guenette in the depth chart, and multiple forwards ahead of Crookshank.

A big part of evaluating Comtois is expectations. He scored some goals early and every one got excited about him being the next power forward top 6 guy. But he scored those goals with an unrealistically high shooting percentage that he'll likely never repeat. The past two seasons he's been at a "normal" percentage and you see what he has always been. A good bottom six guy for sure but with real middle six upside if used properly by his coach. Match ups, consistent ice time, no scratches, time on the second PP unit, etc.

Tanner Jeannot is exactly the same if you look at his stats of points and shooting percentage. One year of 20% / 24 goals crashing back to earth at 5% / 6 goals.

You misunderstand. As I said above, there is a huge risk in trading 3 cost controlled assets for an expiring physical forward coming off a serious knee injury and procedure. He loses his speed and he's done in the top 6. History dictates that NHLers tend to drop off drastically after they hit 30. Specially ones with physical prowress. This has Milan Lucic 2.0 written all over it and I'm putting out a huge BUYER BEWARE sign on Wilson. I love his game and I'd love him on the team, but not at what it would cost. AKA our best defensive center, a potential 3rd line scoring winger, and depth on the blueline. The rumor has been squashed anyway so this argument is moot.

Guenette had a much better year than Lassi did in Belleville. I'd argue he's on the up in case of injury over Lassi.

The organization is very high on Angus. He's going to get a shot in the bottom 6 this year for sure because there are many openings.

Cost controlled depth.
