A soon to be 31 year old 3rd liner whose career high is 15 goals and 34 points is "untouchable??" Please tell me what I'm missing. I mean I couldn't care less because the Flyers have no need for him or a player like him since they are rebuilding, but untouchable?

He's the type of player that is more valuable to CAR than any other team. Glue guy that is a good locker room guy and plays the bottom-six role to perfection. Probably viewed in similar value as Laughton to the Flyers

No no no, I get all of that, but he said he is "untouchable" which literally means they wouldn't trade him and to walk away from a deal for Konecny over Martinook is laughable.

I can't see him being part of any deal for TK. Basically giving away 3 first round picks + 3rd for TK. CAR isn't going to do that

I agree and it's because the Flyers have no need for a 31 year old 3rd liner when they are just starting a rebuild, not because he is so good Carolina wouldn't trade him for TK.

Laughable as it may be but the FO wont trade Martinook. He doesn’t carry the value in the market as he does for the team. We would find another asset to make the deal work.

Honestly we aren’t likely in the TK market anyways. Philly is going to ask for the moon while retaining and the Canes aren’t going to pay because they don’t need retain. Plus he has no control

So if Briere called up and said we will give you Konecny for Martinook the Canes would decline? You honestly believe that?

I don't think Carolina would trade Martinook in any deal for TK. They aren't going to move someone who is highly valued by the team for a top-six forward they can acquire from any team that has one (Garland/Boeser/Keller/etc).

Imagine a team being like "yeah we will keep the 15 goal/30 point 31 year old over the 26 year old 30 goal/60-80 point winger. That is literally the silliest thing I have heard in a while and that is saying something.

It doesn't make sense to put a valuation on Martinook in an impossible scenario. No GM is going to offer him 1 for 1 for TK because it's implicit that he isn't worth TK. That being said, if you build any base for TK, Martinook isn't going to be included in that either because his value is far greater to the Canes than a rebuilding Flyers team. It's a pointless hypothetical. Carolina is effectively trading 3 first round picks for TK. If they wanted to move that much they can go acquire Keller who is much better

Canes wouldn’t put Nikishin in the Meier deal so certainly won’t for TK. Think they go after him and offer a first a third and another prospect but that’s probably as high as they’d go.

I'd be mad at Dorion for doing that move, but well it wouldn't be the first time

I don't think he's that stupid though

1st + 2nd for LAUGHton lol

... at the deadline so gearing up for the playoffs. Any GM paying a first now is dumb as hell

Look at what Bjorkstrand and Connor Brown went for last off-season, both easily better players.

Any GM trading a late 1st for Laughton now would be pretty stupid, or pretty uninformed about his job. Evaluating players (pro scouting) is very important.

Laughton has had slightly inflated numbers recently due to his playing time and PP opportunity the last 2 seasons. He shouldn't be anywhere near a NHL top-6 unless you're rebuilding

Laughton is wildly overrated. Even if he produced more than the rest of his career the last 2 years (normal, he's getting more minutes with better linemates, including PP), he has still averaged only 10 more points per 82 games than Mathieu Joseph the last 2 years (which would be even less if you only look at Joseph PPG in Ottawa) but he is not even close as good defensively or on the PK

FyVhsS8XwAESZ_G?format=png&name=large

Would you give a 1st for Mathieu Joseph?
