Jack Hughes needed to lift weights and eat steak. Slafkovsky needs to skate better and think the game at a higher level. One of these things is easier to accomplish.

We seen Slaf with Slovaks/Czech's at camp loose and playing great
Without them as we have not a single NHL Slovak or Czech to talk to him
His English is very weak , His French is worse and he's an 18 year old NHL Rookie in a Billingual City that dont understand him.
If we still had someone like Tatar i think you woulda seen a different player all together.

Not only did Slaf jump from big ice to small ice a NHL recognized struggle Europeans go through
But he had to forgo the benefit of the Coaches knowledge and Veterans Experience

We havent seen Slaf Comfortable in a system like the Olympics or WJC or on Big Ice
We just seen a guy struggling with the speed and physicality of the game cause when he hits back he gets ejected ,suspended or in the penalty box.
There's a disconnect that was clear cause when Mesar was there he struggled no where near as much

I mean Imagine if we judged Hughes on his Hockey IQ based on his first years play

But...Hughes's hockey IQ was fantastic in his first year of play. He just wasn't physically ready. It was extremely obvious from watching him that his feet, hands, and brain were as-advertised, he was just a boy among men.

Slaf's skating and IQ were the big knocks against him going into the draft and I think his rookie year further solidified those concerns. I'm not judging his IQ on his first NHL season. I'm judging based on his last 2.5 years of hockey, at all levels.

They wouldn’t because it completely tanks their just now opening window. All of those pieces are exterior pieces anyways and none are sure things. And it’ll take most of them 3-5 years before they truly hit their strides. By then, the other good pieces the Devils have will be exiting their primes.

Purely from a value standpoint, maybe this is close to what Jack is worth but from a contending standpoint, it’s awful for us.

We did and we accurately saw that his hockey iq was insane and he was just physically immature and once he learned how to play in the league he would be a superstar in the league.
