Dubas moves

Créé par: Victor24
Équipe: 2023-24 Penguins de Pittsburgh
Date de création initiale: 17 juin 2023
Publié: 17 juin 2023
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
My guess is a trade with Tor and a trade down with someone like Chi.
Then a whole lot of UFA signings.
Bunting and Aston-Reese because of Tor connection
Rodriguez, De Hann, and Archibald due to analytics reasons
Anderson because the trend now is a 1A / 1B goalie tandem sort of set up.
Trading Rutta, Granlund, and Puustinen for more draft capital
If Fla isn't interested, they keep Rutta and Puustinen
If Dal isn't interested, they buy out Granlund

Advanced analytics like DeSmith but he isn't 1B material. I would try to sneak him through waivers later in the offseason or keep him around as long as possible.

Doubt Chicago uses pick #44 to move up 5 spots unless it's on the draft floor and there is a player at #14 they love.

And Hawks won't burn a retention slot for 2 seasons for a 4th.

A 7th D, a 3rd, and a prospect. That's more than enough for a guy who has 3 goals in 31 games and who hasn't had a good season since the OHL.

I figured it would be a draft day thing and only if CHI liked a guy Pit didn't.

The retention is 1MM, that wouldn't cost a lot.

Ah, I misread. The value is probably on par. I just don't think we (or me) are ready to dump him.

Granlund was not a fit on the Pens. His style matches Dal much more. He would be a replacement for 3rd / 2nd line and he would only be 3.5MM. Dal needs forwards who can play top 2 lines and Domi is gone.

Last season with Nash he was:
Top 50 in the NHL at drawing penalties, top 50 in takeaways, was decent at preventing goals and shots, and was great on the PP (15th in NHL in PP points)

I could see Dal being interested for 3.5 a year

That is fair. He may be worth another look, if the new regime disagrees, Dubas might want him.

    You think?
The defenseman signed by goal prevention (5v5, 500+ min, 215 players total)
    Letang: 2.79 (141st)
    Petterson: 2.73 (128th)
    Petry: 2.63 (102nd in NHL)
    POJ: 2.92 (166th)
De Haan: 1.89 (1st in NHL)
Smith (9 game sample): 2.34 (would be 29th if he had enough games)

All had a corsi of 52% or better (top 100 in NHL)
All had 80+ hits (minus Smith but he was on pace for 80+) (top 100 in NHL)
All had expected goals per 60 of 0.19 or better (top 100 in NHL)

    That isn’t a bad defense.

It's not the amount. Hawks have already used one retention slot for the next 2 seasons in the McCabe trade to Toronto. If they retained on Rutta, they only have one slot left each of next 2 seasons. Not a good move for a rebuilding team. Pretty confident Hawks aren't burning that 2nd slot for 2 years for just a very late 4th.

Granlund can't play top 2 lines. his underlying numbers have been dreadful accross multiple teams and multiple years. even retained, this doesn't really move the needle. I think RHD is first on the wish list and then some cost effective help up front.

ZAR numbers and rankings 5v5 vs forwards with 500+ min
    Expected Goals: 10 (234th)
    Hits: 161 (36th)
    Corsi: 47% (268th)
    Expected Goals Against per 60: 2.34 (66th)
    High-Danger shots against per 60: 1.96 (62nd)

So you are likely talking about the goals and possession. They aren’t good. I'm talking about the goal prevention and hitting.

I wanted to make a 4th line that prevented goals. This one is very good at that. I don't need them to score. That's what the top three lines do.

His scoring touch has taken a hit since 2020. He can still pass and work the dirty areas. If Dal isn't interested, and no one else is either, Pit would just buy him out.

They are in a bit of a cap crunch next season and Woll looked good in the playoffs. I figured they could use the picks to trade for a player they might want for cheap or to free up more cap space.

Robertson might be more of a Dubas guy and the new regime might want something new.

Our defense was absolutely brutal last year and this just subs De Haan and Smith in for Rutta and Dumo. Which is an improvement, but it needs much more work. We had 0 physical presence and left people wide open in front of our net constantly. There were disastrous pinches as well, and the team couldn't keep a lead at all. There was no ability to lock down and play team defense at all, which also fell on the forwards too, but still. Our transition game was also awful. We need a good puck mover, that was Sullivan's #1 priority at the trade deadline and Hextall didn't comply.

Well Hextall is bad at his job, no argument there.

The Pens were extremely unlucky last year. They ranked 21st in goals for and 3rd in expected for.
    https://moneypuck.com/teams.htm

In terms of securing a lead, they didn't have a good defensive group of forwards. The 4th line should be that here. Also, all lines have someone who is at least ok defensively. That should solve most of their woes.

But it's still the D's responsibility to protect the net and not leave guys wide open in front. That's largely why Hextall acquired Petry and Rutta but they didn't do a good job. I'd replace Rutta with a bigger guy who can do that and then one of POJ or Petry with a better puck mover. Seriously would consider moving the 1st for Hanfin because a stay at home D to protect the net could be found in free agency, but a good puck mover like Orlov would cost way way too much.
