Love marner but we can’t afford Marner’s cap hit in 24-25.

Canes decline. Marner doesn't fix the goal scoring problems. Necas had 3 fewer goals. Easy pass. Roster pieces for Marner is a pretty simple no

I understand why you wouldn't want to do the trade. That's perfectly fine. But to be fair, Marner can fix goal scoring problems even if he isn't the one potting them. He is more than just a playmaker he puts goals on other people's sticks by force. Constantly amazed how he puts free goals on players sticks. Aho is clearing 50 goals playing with this guy no problem.

If there was a stat that was more than a primary assist this guy would lead in it lmao, but I do understand where you are coming from.

Carolina have 7 genuinely fantastic playmakers. Another one isn't going to change a thing. Teravainen, Necas, Jarvis are all pass first guys. Kotkaniemi and Aho are too. Svech will shoot first, but Marner doesn't fix a damn thing. Toronto fans say he's so good he improves the players around him, yet his 3 best seasons go hand in hand with a 40 goal season from Tavares, a 60 goal season from Matthews, and this last year where it was the first time he proved he could put up numbers like that without getting carried, and he has not shown any reason to believe it's sustainable...

This literally does not make sense at all, have you considered Marner contributed heavily to all of those seasons?

No arguing with canes fans 😂; Marner - two time first team all star, just below back to back 100 point seasons, at or near top of primary assists past few years, at or near top of takeaways past few years, selke nominee - is carried by his team mates.
No problem if you don’t like the trade (I don’t like it from leafs perspective) and argue he gets paid too much but trying to seriously state Marner is not elite - you just make yourself look of questionable judgement

Like I said, I understood your reasoning. But your evaluation of Marner is completely off base. You're fine to think that. But to the people who watch him every night, Tavares and Matthews ain't getting close to those seasons without Marner. He is an offensive masterclass, go watch highlights of their goals those 2 seasons and you'll see Marner put pucks off their asses and into the net. It's great to watch. Add in a Selke candidate and leading the league in takeaways. Like come on. I know Leafs fans can be annoying but to say he got carried is just a troll take. I can give credit to Carolina's players for what they bring to the table, and their skills sets. You guys have a ton of great players. The guys been over a PPG for 5 straight years.

If you want to talk about playoffs Marner than go right ahead I wont argue with ya. But to say this guy got carried in the regular season is just not true.

Little Bert is probably not signing in Canada. I think Marner is totally worth that package. Plays in all situations going to be 90-100 points every year.

Canes also have the same issue as the Leafs, they need some tougher big guys to support their elite players. Marner does not do that.
Marner would need to be traded to a team like Colorado or even Boston, teams a bit short to top 6 quality players.

Marner immediately becomes by far the best offensive weapon on his team in Carolina. I understand not wanting to give up Necas with Pesce for value purposes, but to compare Marner's offensive skill with anyone on Carolina is completely disingenuous. Svechnikov is a better finisher for sure but overall offensive aptitude he's not close. Neither is Aho.
