How about a Bo Groulx for Jack Drury deal? Both players who could use a change of scenery

To quote another poster on here just a bit ago... "Because Chicago wants to trade away 1st round picks." Amen to that!

Hawks decline.

Leafs would give you their 2023 1st for Pesce straight up. We will gladly take Teravanen in the package as well if you really want.

why would the canes do any of these deals? Clifton signing is on the only deal on this that would be remotely possible.

Not debating the value. It's crazy good. But the Hawks are the wrong trade partner if Canes want a 1st for Pesce and Turbo.

Does it make them more physical, yep

Better goaltending, yep

Take a top talented D man from a division rival, yep

Add some playoff scoring, yep

Other than that. I don’t know.

Keep in mind the moves are to accumulate the compensation needed for Miller as a RFA and Helleybuck without giving up roster pieces.

after one season most of it is gone. Barbs isnt worth 6 million and will be a drain on the cap. Helley will walk. Helley will likely struggle in the playoffs as he has.

Miller at 7 million is too much. He has potential but he isnt that good.

I was too lazy to write in the notes section so I’ll do it now

The whole point is IF the Canes used their cap space to help themselves and hurt a rival who is in a tough cap situation….NYR

Barbs is the anti-Necas, most importantly he shows up in the playoffs. Given the weak UFA pool and his playoff performance I think he’ll get in that range. It’s a risk but Canes need scoring in the playoffs. His physical play is a big plus as well.

Yes, the Miller contract is a risk, as is any RFA offer because you have to offer more than the current team can match. NYR will try hard to keep him, he is young and talented so worth the gamble.

An extension for Helle is implied in the trade. As for his struggles….he doesn’t have nearly the help the canes can offer and his struggles this year was against Vegas who just put up 9 on Bob so maybe slow your roll on the Hell struggle thing.

If you don’t see how he is a massive improvement over what the Canes have had the last five years I can’t help you

Even with these moves they still have $9m in cap space.

So sure, future decisions will need to be made on key guys, but the idea the entire future is mortgaged is just wrong.

Barbashev showed up for one playoffs and he is now a playoff performer? He had 3Gs and 6As in 48 playoff games before this season. Someone is going to grossly overpay him for one playoffs and it won’t be us thankfully.

In Necas first 48 playoff games he has 7Gs and 14As.

Helley is 31, unless he extends for 6 x 6 (which he wouldn’t) he won’t be a hurricane. We aren’t paying for the heavy regression over the rest of his career

We're not the ones to overpay for 'Saint Hellebuyck'. Someone might. Just not us. We won't even overpay for the things we need most. Costs nothing to wish.

So your philosophy is to judge players on past performance rather than what they are currently capable of....interesting.

Goalies peak later and age better than skaters. But I'll admit, it's a risk, but considering the Canes have been bounced from the playoffs the last five years by superior goaltending....it might be something worth addressing

You’re ignoring past performances to make a narrative fit for 1 playoff run. 9 points in 48 playoff games is to be ignored because of one set of 20 games where he scored 17? Im glad they don’t pay a guy for 1 20 game burst while ignoring the rest of the regular season.

Goalies peak around 26-30. Then they start regressing from 31 to 34, a sharp regression at 35 and 36, a weird improvement at 37, then off the cliff again

I wish I could because there has never been more uncertainty over the direction of so many roster players. And we're not the only team that is leaving fans without a clue at the moment.
