small price to pay for not going 0-82 for being over the cap with a short handed roster.
5 players to sign to fill out roster and over that cap already.
in all seriousness its probably going to cost a 1st for next season. leafs dumped the same cap hit to Carolina not to long ago for a 1st rounder.
Vancouver isn’t over the cap though. They can put together a 23 man roster with about $1 mil in space while resigning all their pending free agents.
Toronto dumping Marleau with a 1st is a completely different scenario. That trade was also 4 years ago, once a deal becomes more than 2 years old it’s pretty much obsolete because of how values fluctuate over time.
Toronto was over the cap and had to dump someone, Vancouver is not. Marleau was owed a bunch of money, whereas Myers is only actually owed $1 mil of his $6 mil cap hit once his bonus is paid. Marleau also plays the least valuable and most abundant position (winger) as opposed to Myers, who plays the most valuable and hardest to find and develop at position (right defence). In no way is Myers comparable to Marleau.
I don’t see it costing more than a 3rd to dump Myers on a cap floor team like Anaheim so that they can get paid a pick to save money, then retain 50% at the TDL to get another asset for him. Both Vancouver and Anaheim fans have been in agreeance that Myers can be dumped on Anaheim with a 3rd after his bonus is paid.
