I don’t hate it from a Detroit perspective. Unless I’m missing something, Wings accept.

Why do the Islanders do a 1:1 swap of Pageau for Garland?

WPG likely says no even if that were offered for Stanley, let alone Dillon. Rathbone would practically have zero value in WPG and the pick is... a 4th.

Younger and more 5on5 offensive production. Neither of them are the best assets on the market.

That's fair. I was viewing it as just clearing out a contract and getting a younger dman with upside but you're right that Winnipeg would be able to get more. Particularly if they wait until the deadline to move him as a pending UFA. Canucks could fill that role internally instead I guess.

I love this for DET. Does Myers suck? Absolutely. But he would have been 3rd on our team this year in blocked shots and top 10 in hits (effectively replacing Hronek in that category). Limit his TOI to 3rd pair instead of 21 mins ATOI and you might have a decent 3rd pair option in Myers.

Also, the contract is extremely buyout-friendly. $5.3M this upcoming year and only $333k in 24-25. I'll easily take that buyout to move up to 11.

It currently seems like Isles management and coaching wants Barzal on the wing, which makes a Pageau trade very unlikely imo. That being said I’m not sure how long this experiment will last given the way Horvat played down the stretch. He had less of an impact this past post season than Pageau did in his first season on Long Islanr for ****s sake.

If we had to give up Dillon, I'd be happy to send him home at least. But ya, wrong pieces. If Rathbone was younger then maybe there's a chance, but he's not waiver exempt anymore and would either be a risk to lose on waivers or just another AHL dman upset with management - WPG has enough of those lol.

Ya I can't see that experiment lasting too long either. I think they'd be best of running three lines with Barzal, Horvat, Nelson up the middle.

More likely that Barzal, Nelson, and Lee are put back together then Horvat + Pageau center lines 2 and 3.

Its terrible for Detroit. There is like no difference between 11 and 17. So Wings are basically giving Canucks a 2nd to take Myers. Brutal

Depends on what happens draft day. There might be someone available at 11 that Detroit has higher up on their board. This would definitely on the draft floor type of trade if it happened.
