That's not even close. The 32nd overall pick, and a cap dump for a 90 point player? You're short a Salfkovsky. This would be like the Rangers coming to Montreal offering Goodrow and their 1st this year for Caufield.

No it's not a thing? 0% chance of Artemi Panarin waiving for one of the worst teams in the NHL.

Ypu missing some important context. Mostly the he will be 32 at the begining of next season and has a 11.6 million cap hit.

He is a good player but not great value

Take 33 million off the books is an interesting take, ny can easily buy what they want with that money gone, probably hold out for some more picks and prospects, but probably not too far off without having to retain.

Yes at least a GOOD A-Prospect need to return and NO Hoffman.
1st (31OA)+ Kidney... then if you need to send back some$$ send Dvorak as they need C-depth

No thank you at that price. I was thinking he's probably worth 2 1sts but the Habs are absorbing an overpay of about 3.5M years 2 and 3 so that 7M is worth a later 1st in terms of value.

I would do it more.or less as a full cap dump

Think about Vegas dumping Pacioretty... This is 4.5M more per season and for 3 seasons instead of 1.

Hoffman is 33... Panarin is the younger player in this deal. He's also still producing 90+ points a season, so he's still earning his money. Worth a HELL of a lot more than this, probably a Slafkovsky +

He did produce 90 points. Will he do it again? Probably not .

And again you ignore context. Its mike hoffman for 1 year at 2.25 million vs panarin at 3 years 11.6 million.

Yes, yes he was. Except, Pacioretty didn't have the production of Panarin. New York also don't need to move Panarin as badly as the Knights needed to move Pacioretty. Stop it, this isn't comparable

I'd rather have 3 years of Panarin who is probably going to put up 90+ points again over 1 year of Hoffman whose psycho girlfriend got him kicked out of Ottawa

Zip, Trichack and Dvorak as I prefer Chytil on the L-wing good on the board and to protect the puck.

4 season in NY:
95 in 69 (1.37 ppg)
58 in 42 (1.38 ppg)
96 in 75 (1.28 ppg)
92 in 82 (1.12 ppg)

such a massive swing in production...

First off: I think it's important to mention that I appreciate both of you for leading this discussion. Thank you for your attention and interest!

I want to clarify my position. I do not believe a late 1st (31-32 OA) is a fair return for getting access to what Panarin has brought and will continue to bring to a team. At the same time I know that in the NHL, and especially with the somewhat stagnant cap, teams have periodically let players go for "pennies on the dollar" because they needed the cap space to go in a different direction or they did not want to lose a player for nothing. Some recent memories of this for me are when the Habs picked up Thomas Vanek, and when the Canes picked up Pacioretty and Burns.

I do think there are some indicators that the Rangers at at one of those places with Panarin. Here's my point of view:

1) Regardless of what he does in the regular season, the Rangers ex-coaching staff and the fans seem to have lost faith in what he can do in the playoffs
2) There are not a ton of teams who can take on 11.6M in cap over 3 years, especially for an older, albeit still productive, player
3) If the Rangers move salary they can use the cap space to resign Lafreniere & Miller to long term team friendly deals
4) They may believe that moving Panarin out will create space to let their equally talented younger players express themselves with more ice time

Maybe it's not the case, but one thing is certain, moving on from great regular season players who "cannot get it done" in the playoffs is a theme this offseason, and Panarin is at the top of the list in terms of age, cap hit, and term, but maybe 4th or 5th in terms of skill. He's gonna be hard to move.

Yes as Laffy was playing on the second line right side.. before the addition of Kane & Tara.
Now that they are gone he should play Top 6... that leaves many good option on the third line.
But anyway you seems to stubborn to see other POV

Kreider-Zib-Kakko
Panarin-Trocheck-Lafreniere
-Chytil-
They need cheap wingers, not a 4.45M 3C only to move Chytil on the 3LW, they don't have the cap space
And if they want Chytil 2C & Trocheck 3C, don't still don't have room for a Dvorak
You have no arguments, you just complain that I know my **** better than you do
And no, we are a couple of Habs with hockey knowledge, you aren't one

i'm not familiar with the Vanek situation, so I cannot comment but Vegas was a whole different scenario. they HAD to move Patches out.
Rangers do not need to move on or move Panarin. they will bridge Miller and Laf, worst case buyout Goody.
perennial 90 point players with no evidence of regression do not get moved for pennies on the dollar, regardless of subpar postseason play.
