I don't think CBJ does this unless they get a t6 center in the trade.

I'm guessing they pick Smith/Benson/Michkov with the 5th pick, which are projected top 6 players. Plus they get a late first + Beck who's projecting to be a reliable top 9 centerman. Not bad at all.

I feel that Kent Hughes would want William Smith more then Carlsson as he have coach the boys when he was with USA development league.

But #2 to #5 is not 100% exact. Some like fantilli other like Carlsson for is size other like Will Smith and Michkov is a enigma with everything around him. Would a team like San Jose decide that they could wait 3 years before he join them and pick him ?

CBJ are not in a rebuild mode and need to win next year. They will trade the 3rd overall but they need an NHL center like Dach or Suzuki.

CBJ more likely to try to trade up than down as per they want to get better much faster, but barring this, I'd do it, as per Beck is near NHL ready (in a 3rd line C role) and the downgrade from the pick isn't that steep from Carlsson to Smith...

CBJ could miss out on Smith if San Jose takes him though.

CBJ needs center depth. Not more wingers. And they are projected to get leo carlsson. His literally going to be a number 1 center... They are not passing that up, unless they make a trade for say Elias Lindholm.

would Colombus interesting into a guys like Dvorak as third center ? Maybe doing Mtl getting the #3 and Colombus getting the #5 and Dvorak ?
