Description
Yeah I know about the core 4 stays comments, but I'm taking it with a grain of salt. I can pretty much guarantee that Toronto is at least listening on Marner and Nylander.

Anyway, I have seen a lot of Nylander to Carolina trades, and also a ton of Leafs/Avs trades, which imo don't make sense for Colorado, so I figured I'd try and put them together into something that might work for everyone.

Here, the Leafs get a great defenseman in Toews, Carolina gets Nylander without disturbing their D, and Colorado gets a young forward to supplement their depth for the long haul. Everyone loses something they don't want to lose, but gains something that will help their team. Note that I'm assuming both Toews and Nylander sign extensions in their new destinations.

I have the Canes adding a bit, since Necas (who is obviously no slouch) is not quite as good as Toews or Nylander.

I might be off base, but it seemed like a decent enough idea to post and fish for feedback. If it sucks, please make sure your comments are as rude as humanly possible so as to expose my lack of knowledge and make me feel stupid, lol.

I find the value here to be fine. Maybe a bit of fine tuning on each end, and consideration of short and long-term salary cap stuff, but everybody has that.

I'm just not sure Toews really fills Toronto's biggest need. They're trading a PPG forward when they need to be adding supplementary offence, not taking it away. As much as the value is fine, I'm not sure the fit is excellent.

lol you think 28 goal, 71 point forward has more value than 40 goal, 87 point forward? ESPECIALLY in this scenario where OP says all players sign new deals.

Hilarious.

Necas makes half of what Nylander does, it 3 years younger, and plays center. Not to mention, Necas hits the highest top speed of any player in the NHL annually, he's done it for the last 3 years. You think all of that isn't worth 16 points? Hilarious

Not sure why they Avs would move Toews for Nylander, top pairing defenseman are harder to find then top line wingers. I get that there are subsequent moves to the deal but it would have to be a three way trade for this to work and if thats the case the leafs would need to add something small, a low end prospect for alate pick something along those lines.

It is a three way trade. Guess I didn't say that anywhere, but that was the intent.

Avs end up with Necas and a 2nd, which to me is a reasonable return if they can't re-sign Toews. Obviously we see that everyone likes their guy, which is expected, but I think all teams get more balanced here.

that canes fan should be on everyone's ignore list. his hyperbole isnt worth responding too.

It really comes down to what will Nylander re-sign for? If its reasonable, the Canes would do it. I have a feeling he is going to want a lot and the Canes will have a hard time fitting it in long term.

I'm sure he does. It's just funny that you would use that as an argument for how valuable a player is. I'm not trying to say speed isn't important; it just doesn't mean anything when it's presented in that context.

The entire point of the league is to be fast. It's what makes the Canes so consistent, they're one of the best skating teams in the NHL. It's why youthful teams are fun to watch, they run around like rabbits. Speedy wingers (Duclair, Athanasiou, etc) are important because they allow you to pressure bad pinches. It's something the Canes did well all season. That has value. Very few players have that gamebreaking speed. He's one of the few players that will beat McDavid or MacKinnon or Larkin in a footrace....

Nah; you're overvaluing an expiring UFA wing: two-way, top-pair D>almost any wing. He puts up a lot of points, sure, but he doesn't play a premium position, isn't known as a strong two-way player and is going to ask for a ton of money and term on his next deal. If anything, Avs should ask for a bit more from TO in this scenario. Leafs could keep him as an own rental but they can't afford to re-sign him and this is a very good offseason return. Now, TO could easily say that they need better supplementary scoring so this doesn't help but the value is solid.

I actually kind of like this one for the Avs and, for that matter, the Canes in that they seem to need more finishers but I'm not sure Toronto is keen on adding Toews although I do think it would help them a lot.

I think this actually makes sense for what all 3 teams need. Probably needs some work on what other pieces go where to balance it out. But a 3 way revolving around Toews-Nylander-Necas could help balance out all 3 rosters.

One of the other pieces I would be interested in if we moved Toews out would be Timmons. Not sure how Toronto views him with all the time he has missed due to injury lately. But would be an interesting piece to come back if Toronto needs to add.
