No it's really not.

Auston Matthews is going to sign wherever he wants next summer. If that's in LA, great. If it's not, fine. There's absolutely no reason for the Kings to give up their best young players for him, because it will make no difference on where he chooses to sign. Matthews isn't going to extend in a city he otherwise wouldn't because that team happened to offer up the best haul for his services a year before he becomes a UFA.

This is absolutely not happening in such shape. Leafs are not going into rebuild with 3 mid-late 1st round picks.

They will absolutely do it. Just have to secure extension before trade.

If he agrees to an extension in advance, the Kings would certainly agree to give up more, but I still don't think it will be any of Byfield, Clarke, Vilardi, or Kempe.

Come on man. That’s ridiculous. If I was a fan of any team , id move any of my players to get Matthews. Unless it’s like 5-10 players in the league

If Matthews wants to sign in LA, he will. The Kings don't need to pay such a ridiculous haul for him. They'll have to pay through the nose to sign him as a UFA. One of those guys isn't worth the rental season and the option of signing him to the 8th year, which are the only benefits they'd get out of the trade.

No way I'm trading our 16th overall, Zary and Dube for one year of Nylander. Why not just wait until the Leaf's are too top heavy to resign their core?

Even if that were true, then it would be pretty stupid to give up that haul for Matthews who would just walk next summer when he becomes a UFA.

Oh, I fully agree with you. I'm just saying LA is a dump of a city and anyone who has ever spent time their knows there is nothing glamorous about endless traffic jams, garbage and a burgeoning junkie populace. It's not the "sweetener" people claim it to be. Lots of places have sunny weather.

I did enjoy the Comedy Store and SoFi Stadium when I was there last. It was just the large swaths of everything in-between that was unpleasant.

I know you're going to disagree with me because that's the kind of person you seem to be, but when you have a window, you do whatever it takes. Kopitar is another year older and UFA at the end of next year. Doughty is another year older. Reality can and does hit a lot of NHL teams quick. LA has won Cups recently, but seriously, you take a freaking swing, especially to honor guys like Kopitar and Doughty who are getting older.

I honestly can't believe someone is saying no Byfield either especially with his injuries. Idk, thank god you're not a GM I guess.

I know you'd prefer all the teams in the league just give all their best players to the Leafs', but the league isn't your farm team.

Blake has been very conservative in his dealings so far. There's nothing to suggest that he's going to blow up the future for one chance to win now, especially when it's for a guy that they can sign next summer without having to give up anyone. I'm sure they'd be willing to pay a rental price to bring in Matthews for next season, but the return won't include their best young prospects and players.

And if the "person you seem to be" means "reasonable", then yes, I agree.

Feel like I’m seeing this take around here a lot the last few days. I think what people are trying to point out is that if matthews would agree to extension of course LA would include byfield plus more. You’re just playing under the assumption if Matthews would sign in LA just wait, he will be in free agency. There could be a handful of teams he would sign with and that would trade for him this summer or before the deadline. if the opportunity is there to trade and extend matthews you absolutely trade your best prospects to do to, those chances don’t just come around every off season. You wait and the opportunity might be gone.

I actually don't prefer that. Yes, I'm a Leafs fan, but I want this team to earn it and I'm super hard on them. So speak for yourself you super soft cupcake. I am realistic, and being realistic, you do not get superstar players for this league, no matter how they don't perform in the playoffs, for crap. It's so funny, you people make fun of Leafs fans for trades on here, but you literally want to give up nothing for Matthews unless it benefits you.

You're so funny and hypocritical, you cute little cupcake.

Not crap. Nothing. The Kings will make their best offer in UFA and he'll take it or he won't.

FWIW, I don't resort to ad hominem when I disagree with people.
