It’s recency bias by me, but it seems like skaters have been hitting the ice with the back of their heads after a hit a lot recently.

Makes me wonder why the rear of the helmet doesn’t have a bit more protection - it’s probably the least obstructive part of the helmet. They’d look ridiculous I bet, like how Jordan staal used to look like darth helmet, but maybe they should add like 1/2 to 1” more to the backside and make it like a crumple zone. It’s rare that the event happens, and when it does the helmet is trashed as the crumple would be used up, but it would probably save a lot of injury time and not restrict player motion.

Helmet manufacturers would love this idea.

I know you're right. And the ref sees the Desharnais swinging his stick wildly and sees the player fall...I see why the call was made. Just bothers me to see the game end on a weak call like that.
