NJD can sign both Meier and Bratt at market value as many demonstrated earlier. And personally I would keep Bratt before Meier.

Yes, the Devils can afford Bratt and Meier. No, that is not too much. In fact, it isn't enough. Bratt starts with Caufield, and before you say that's a ridiculous thing to ask, remember that the Devils have no use for draft picks at this stage.

Thanks for the feedback! I should have added that even though they can sign both to market value, how does that affect the rest of the roster. They still have a few other guys to sign. You wouldn't want to regress too much as a team next year because you went heavy on two contracts.

And as a MTL fan, I take Meier any day if they didn't want to give up Bratt!

Yeah, I'm not NJD fan, but I would personally put Bratt and Ryan Graves before Meier personally.
But I've seen some examples of how that would look, and it is not like a team that lacks depth by any means.
and they have a lot of top notch talent coming up through their system, so either way they are fine I would say.

the trade for Bratt seems like a good price but I dont think theyll even pick up the phone, i expect the Devils to give him ~7 million

Devils have plenty of cap room, especially if they don't bring back some of UFAs (Severson, Graves, Tatar, Haula, Wood = $17m+)

Bratt and Meier are probably due for $2.5-3m raises. So we should be okay to extend them with cap to spare.

Hawks decline. That Rangers pick is a conditional pick that can become a 1st. Hawks aren't trading it. And they aren't going to give up anything for Edmundson. If Habs want something back for him, he needs to go elsewhere.

Graves before Meier? That's insane. I would have Meier/Bratt>Tatar>Severson>Haula>Graves. Left handed defenseman should be the team's last priority, with Siegenthaler, Hughes, and Bahl all deserving of a spot.

I’d suggest to go do a ACGM team for NJD for the next few years. No cap issues to contend with and no reason to move Bratt. Even if an OS happens they’d just match whatever.

I didn't say Meier over Graves, I said Bratt and Graves over Meier and Graves.
I also said they can re-sign both. So maybe your just looking for something to get twisted about?

Bratt ?? IMO Habs dont need another midget on the wings. Bratt and Caufield as your wingers on the 1st line would never work. I would rather use that package and make sure i get PLD and then move Dach over to the wing if necessary or PLD on the wing with Caufield and Suzi

Gurianov at 3M not happening. His QO is 2.9M and he isnt getting that either. I would consider offering him a 1 yr show me deal, which, IMO, is the most he'll get with any team, BUT i want to see what happens at the draft first .... if you win the lottery, it changes everything dont you think ?

Gotta think the Habs can spend 8m wisely and keep their picks.
There are good UFA wingers available,,,,yea not up to Bratt standards , but For an 8m Bratt and 2m winger, that's 10m, you could might be able to get Killorn and Bunting for a total 10m as UFAs and keep the picks.

Now, let's not be too biased. A future top-10 goalscorer isn't traded for the average 1st line winger, regardless of the size.

While I admit that it sounds like I was saying Caufield+, any Bratt for Caufield swap would not see the Canadiens adding. What I meant was that the only thing the Habs have that benefits the Devils now and fully accounts for Bratt's value is Caufield. I was being hyperbolic on purpose to express that there is no realistic Bratt trade involving the Habs.

I don't know that top 10 scorer is guaranteed for Caufield, but I do recognize that he will almost definitely put up more points than Bratt in his prime.

caufield could be put on a bridge deal before giving him the big contract and that is huge for cap management... So he wont be traded and we dont need another small forward that is for sure we already have too many

Nothing of interest on the Canadians to NJD besides Caufield, Dach, and maybe Montembeault.

Most of your forwards are overpaid, we wouldn't want to spend 8 mill on suzuki as a 3C and he'd just be a downgrade vs bratt on the wing.

Defensively no reason to spend 5 mill on matheson to be a 3LD or we'd just resign graves. Guhle/Harris don't move the needle enough as 3LD compared to just rolling with Bahl at 3LDunless they come very cheap

on the right side again unless we can get Barron very cheap no reason to pay for a 1 year stopgap at 3RD to Nemec.

I mean sure if you massively overpay with picks and prospects we'd take it but this doesn't do that.

Besides if bratt goes for 8 that'd be fantastic. I've been accounting him at 8.5 in all my extensions of him.

He’s fantastic but there’s just really a luxury as a 3rd pairing defensemen unless he wants to take a significant bargain to stay in NJD, or at the least a short term deal
