The Miller trade needs more unless the Pens miss the playoffs and the pick is a top 10.

Trading Carter will also require more than a 4th

Zach Kassian (similar cap hit) required a swap of firsts, a second and a third. Zach has 2 years instead of 1 but isn't a black hole on the team

    Nemeth (a 7th D, making 2.5MM) needed a 3rd or 2nd (conditional) to move

I don't think anyone is taking his cap hit for a low 4th. Maybe a low 2nd.

Ok if you think that’s going to be the case then the pens give Anaheim Jeff Carter, their 1st, and 4th for Anaheim’s 1st.

Personally I wouldn't trade the first and I also think our D needs more work, but overall this is very good

    Is the Carter thing allowed?

I know it's been done with other players but I wasn't sure if the 35+ contract thing forbids this?

McGinn, who's contract stretches two more years cost a 3rd. You're wrong. Get over it.

He's wrong and doesn't understand how things work. Carter's contract is done after next year. McGinn was a multi-year contract and cost a 3rd to move. Dude has no clue what he's talking about.

Yeah it is. As long as Carter waives. I just don’t think he can be LTIRetired. If he retires the team with his contract gets no cap relief but they’d obviously trade him to a team like AZ who is rebuilding and needs cap hit that doesn’t actually take a spot away from a legit player.

Yeah, his cap will count otherwise moving his contract would actually have value.

The example I gave was a swap of firsts +2nd and a 3rd for a player who still had value and you respond with a swap of 1sts +4th for a player with absolutely no value?

Either you're disingenuous, very confused, or a troll.

Maybe you're correct. Maybe someone would only require a 4th to take Carter. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Obviously Kassian didn’t have any value if it cost the other team more high-mid draft picks. 🤷‍♂️ Carter retired would have value to a team needing to get to the cap floor but not waste a spot in the lineup. Obviously it would still be a dump, but really not that big of one. McGinn is absolutely useless and takes up a spot in the lineup for two years and only cost a 3rd while getting a player half retained back.

McGinn has a very similar CF to Carter but at least he can kill penalties. I agree that trading Carter wouldn't cost a ton but a low 4th? That is too little. Maybe a low 3rd or swapping the Pens 2nd for a low 3rd or high 4th.

McGinn can kill penalties about as good as you or I could and I’m sure we’d do it for cheaper.
