Basically a 2nd. He can put the puck in the net and mix it up a bit with his grind. Rare breed these days

Lol. Delusional. Boston declines anyway. The odds of getting a better player at that pick are not that great.

Yes, asking for anything more than a late late 3rd is delusional. Guys like Fredrick are free every off season if you have 1.5 mill in cap space

Also laughable is that schenn takes just 800k for FIVE years or Toews would take 2.5mil for two?

All that and you still have the worst LWers in the NHL.

Not to mention, got old really quick and no way to resign Matthews and Nylander

I mean, schenn is a 7th defender, if anyone offers him 5 years at league min that will carry him until hes almost 40, he'd be a fool not to take it, and a team would bw foolish to offer it

bro, a horribly bad trade that literally no one but the lightening gm thinks was good value does not re-set the market.

young, controlled power forwards who can score are worth more than a 3rd rounder. Not saying they will all get a 1/2/3/4/5, but certainly more than what you're insinuating

wrong side of 25 low end 3rd liners who only look decent because they nearly doubled their shooting % and will only get worse from here and have still not hit 30 points all while being not god defensively, however, are not

Frederic is very good defensively and has improved every single year of his career. Are we just expecting every player to peak when they're 23-years-old?

players generally peak scoring wise at 23-25, yes, and no he's not very good defensively.

this is his first full season and he's been incredibly effective. Not saying he's going to be a 30 goal guy, but a consistent 20 goal, physical 3rd liner who plays great defense is certainly achievable.

And yes, he plays great defense. Eye test, advanced analytics, hell even +/-. What metric do you want to use aside from your uninformed opinion?

I only looked at a 5yr stretch because honestly its time consuming. From 2014 to 2018 here are the forwards that were picked between 27th & 31st (+/- 2 spots from where Frederic was picked), currently active and have played at least 100 games in the NHL:

Adrian Kempe - Until his breakout season at 25yr old he was a 30pt player

Anthony Beauvillier - Consistent mid/upper 30's pt player

Sam Steel - Having his best production year and on pace for 28pts

Brett Howden - Depth forward whose only cracked 20pts twice

Eeli Tolvanen - Having his best production year and on pace for 28pts

Brendan Lemieux - Depth player whose never cracked 20pts

Morgan Frost - Having his best production year and on pace for 43pts

Trent Frederic - Having his best production year and on pace for 31pts

Joseph Veleno - Having his best production year and on pace for 19pts

I mean all in all even if you manage to hit on a forward later in the 1st round (picks 27-31), odds are they end up being guy who'll give you 20-40 points. On top of that, you're likely looking at 4-5 years after drafting a player in this range before the player is closing in on 100 NHL games.
