Even if Ottawa got this return its still a lateral move. If we're trading DeBrincat we'll want players and near NHL ready prospects, not more draft picks.

DeBrincat probably wants UFA money, so there is no reason why the Wings can't use that money to sign a UFA, and keep the picks.

As said by most -- No way the Cat brings back what was given up to get him and it surely wouldn't be a top 10 pick. OTT has no bottom 6 guys roster players signed next year except Mathieu Joseph and they wouldn't be able to sign the Cat at his new AAV as Norris comes off IR without sacrificing monies to plug holes on their back end. You have to believe the leverage is the team acquiring not OTT.

Flip side, acquiring teams cannot give up top prospects that are ready to step in and play in the NHL right away to help offset when trading and extending these big 8yr x $8-9M players in trades -- see Horvat or Meier deals.
