they are power forwards, not "grinders"
Edmundson is trash
Slavin is the best DFD, but I rather build my team around an average 1M DFD and 4M puck mover/scorer for the same cap hit
I see why you mentioned Bertuzzi now, but I don't agree that Tom Wilson is a PWF but that doesn't really matter. The point I was making is that he's not easily replaced by Reaves who can replace the physical aspect of Wilson's game but not the production. When you said "defensive dmen are the most replaceable positions in hockey" you implied that Slavin can be replaced easily but by your own admission he can't since he's the best at it. He can't be replaced by the likes of Edmundson. The only good replacement of him is a high end TWD, and you probably think Chychrun is one but he's not on the same level as Makar or Fox, overall.
Whether you want to build your team around Slavin or a puck moving defenceman (I have no idea if Slavin is good at transitioning or not)/ TWD that's a different story. I would say though that I wouldn't be picking Chychrun as the guy to build my team around until he proves he can be healthy. Having your best player/dman sitting in the press box isn't going to help you make a deep run in the playoffs to reach the goal of winning the Cup assuming you can make the playoffs without him.
Edit: Saw your edit. Chychrun might be able to play in the playoffs this year because he's been recovering for a lot of the year and is now being held out, but chances are that he does get hurt (if he isn't already). How about next year though? Will he even make it to the playoffs? Plus, he was a non-factor offensively in the 9 playoff games that he did play in 2019-20. He was only 21 yo, but the whole point is he's not proven.
Adding Chychrun without shipping out Slavin would make sense. Maybe even have a Slavin-Chychrun if Chychrun is any good on his off-side.
