Description
GMBM has been terrible for a long time and each year he gets worse and worse, Leonsis promises Ovi the team won’t rebuild while he finishes his career and just as he returns from the death of his father they send the team into a rebuild with a terrible trade getting nothing significant back in return when they were not out of the playoff race at all. This is not a retool trade this is a rebuild trade and a bad one. This doesn’t improve the team much at all in the future and it doesn’t improve the team at all in the near future now we will see the caps come crashing down and they will not be good for a long time with GMBM in charge how is he not fired.

He just made a good trade…settle down.

Not to mention, mission #1 for this team is to get ovechkin the goal record - winning is secondary.

You just got a pretty massive overpayment in that trade. Not sure what you're complaining about.

I disagree, he has been a very good GM for the Caps...some bad but a lot of good moves...the playoff failures have either been players, injuries, or coaching

Conservatively selling decent players on expiring contracts =/= rebuilding

Nor does it really impact Ovechkin's ability to chase Gretzky.

That extra cap space and draft picks can be put to good use come summer.

So you wanted us to fight for a playoff spot and get immediately swept by the Bruins or Canes???? Also, this trade is in no way saying we are going into a rebuild now....if anything we are now going to retool our roster, trade most of our expiring ufas and then sign guys in free agency to be able to be competitive next year. I also wouldn't be surprised if Hathaway wants to resign with us in the offseason, just so he can keep playing with Dowd.

BMAC has been a top 5 GM in the league since he was hired lol, and this deal was yet another good one for him. He has had only two real misses his entire time -- signing Panik and the Mantha trade -- although that one doesn't even look to bad anymore. This team (with Orlov and Hathaway) have lost 5 in a row and aren't making the playoffs, get some assets and cap space for next year and try again.

How is this retooling, retooling is switching some things up to make the team more competitive for next year, this makes us way worse for next year, they did not get any assets back In the trade that will help the team in the near future and likely not ever, they are not going to be able to replace Orlov and Hathaway before next season

Yeah but that’s not trying again next year that is next year being a devils trying again next year is in the end getting players back that switch up the team and make the team a bit better.

What if he trades the pick he got for NHL players at the draft or off season. Its not like he traded players with term, he traded players who were not going sign and got some pretty decent assets. Hold your judgment till after the off season.

It's better to acquire picks than potentially losing both of them for nothing. On the other hand, they can also re-sign Orlov this summer while using the picks for another acquisition. Win-win move.

Look at it as giving Ovechkin the spring off so he can recharge/refresh and go for another 50 next year.

You sound so stupid. He just got a sizable payment for assets that would have gone away for free in FA. This team has been underachieving and injured all year. People like you confuse the FooK out of me bc you should be thrilled right now

I’d bet u that he will not trade the pick for a roster player he is not a good gm, give me 3 good trades he has made since they won the cup

Okay...The Connor Brown trade was good (just a shame he got hurt), The Sprong for Djoos trade, The Nick Jensen trade, Both Brenden Dillon trades, The Hagelin trade, and the Johan Larsson trade was sneakily good as well.

Edit: Also the Vanecek trade where we reacquired him from Seattle, and the trade where we sent him to NJ as that trade netted us two of our top prospects currently.

You have made all of armchair gm disagree with you, thats next to impossible.

Listen im not a big bmgm fan but relax he got assets back and he did bring us a cup. Would you rather miss the playoffs or be out first round and lose orlov etc for free??

GMBM is a good GM and has made good deals in the past. He’s been a little handicapped the last couple of seasons with Teds promise to Ovi. He has also been stubborn about a retool and the teams play forced his hand.

I expect him to continue getting good value for assets and to find a way to retool successfully.

No they would have resigned Orlov since he is a good player and they likely won’t be able to replace him

OH so DSP wasnt a huge part and other fringe players he signed and brought in like eller!??? lmao wake up

As for orlov, orlov wanted 6 years we offered 3 so no we were not going to resign him and if we could we wouldnt have traded him. Do you know how asset mgmt works
