Winnipeg 100% can match an offersheet. The problem with doing that is then we couldn’t trade pld and would be forced to keep him as a self rental.
Dvorak is negative value to us as his hit stops us from being able to bring in a top 6 c to replace pld.
To me the trade is Barron, Florida 1st & Dach for PLD. Maybe a bit of an adjustment depending on performance the rest of the year for All parts involved.
Follow up question for Habs fans. Why do I keep seeing rosters where your best C in PLD is playing on the wing? 1c would be PLD, 2c Suzuki, 3c for the games he stays healthy Dvorak. Jurag, Cole, Anderson, guy you draft with your own pick this year. You move Anderson and slot someone else in there. Mesar? Beck? Mysak?
I didnt say you couldnt , i said you couldnt without signing the other i believe its 12 players to league minimum type deals.
I was stating you'd have to blow your wad at once on PLD then couldnt trade him to regain value after matching .
More then that this trade offers WPG more then they'll get from any other option once the offersheet is signed.
Its like Sacrificing your Queen to save your King
In Chess you usually only last a few more moves as its simply a matter of time.
WPG could do it but accepting the offer then F'ing us over like CAR did with Kotkanemi makes more sense (assuming its didnt backfire like with KK)
You'd have to be special to think a 30 point player when acquired is worth less now because he's still a 30 point player.
Only argument you got is he's down 5 goals a year off average but that's without Keller,Kessel, Garland and Hall whom he had.
MTL hasnt provided the same depth in Wingers especially Goal Scorers that ARZ did for him
Which in my opinion speaks more about MTL then it does about a 30 point player being traded 2 years later still a 30 point player.
None of his other metrics dropped so stop making excuses for not liking his cap and just own you dont like his cap.
I mean Mathesons a good play , i dont like his cap but i dont make **** up to hide the fact the problem i have with him is purely cap based.
PLD trade value includes Dach? hahahahahahahahahaha
You lost all your leverage and PLD with his agent at virtually every turn have done all they can to screw WPG's trading options.
No one's going all in on a guy who's made if very public that MTL is on his radar was a UFA. Whether or not they can get the rights is one thing.
Another very big piece is will he sign without making them pay 9-11m for just because he can.
Where PLD fits isnt your concern
But the Idea is simple enough so what the heck
Danault had Shaw
Plekanec had Koivu
Koivu had Damphousse
Damphousse had Keane
Each era has a great Center play wing trying to help them make the jump to Center full time.
Issue is sometime like with Lars Eller then minute you trade him that Center might go from 30 goal scorer to never scoring 20 goals even again.
Possession Metrics matter especially if your value as a Center is almost entirely based on offense.
PLD should be at Center though with Dach on his wing eventually with Dach taking over Center.
That said if we're getting PLD that means we committed to not seperating the single best MTL line since Leclair-Damphousse-Bellows in Caufield -Suzuki-Dach.
No point in really getting PLD for that role though given the price tag there's much cheaper options
While i disagree with a few things overall , i probably look at your teams prospects value as similarily low by comparison.
WPG to me though put themselves in this position trying to hold out for a better deal
Well if your player was like Huberdeau being quiet during any deals then sure.
But he just Pacioretty'd you out of 1-2 good deals on the table but you'll still find your Suzuki(metaphorically) type deal to make it worth it.
We on the other hand can and should wait until he's a UFA as we'll have a ton of cap and give up nothing to get him as he wants to be this cups Damphousse.
After some sketchy times on rebuilding teams that didnt get him he'll move home to a Culture that does
