You don't trade a young C that has less than two NHL seasons under his belt for an over-the-hill rental. This is terrible asset management.

I’d argue that Landeskog functionally plays center a lot of the time based on his defensive role and how many face offs he takes.

Nevertheless, this is bad. Even if Newhook never develops beyond what he is today: Newhook and a 1st for Kane is just bad for who Kane is at this point of his career.

He was fun to watch in his prime, but those days are long gone unfortunately.

he never plays up the middle of the ice, face-offs are not what being a Center is about, He would have to change how he plays his game to actually play C, its not as simple as hes good defensively and takes draws so lets shift him to the middle. I dont doubt that Landy could learn to play Centre but he has never in his career, so why force it now

Landeskog and Rantanen play center quite often. They make $16 mil combined and should be able to figure it out. If not we’re in trouble.

Well trading for wingers and forcing players to play a position that is not their natural role is not a solution either

I have said Many times in the past that Adam Henrique is the ideal trade piece for the avs, he adds a nice short term solution to the 2c spot, allows newhook to grow into it more, and Henrique does what the avs do well, hes smart, a good skater, great defensively

your solution doesnt really fit with bendar, Kane as offensively gifted he is, is a awful defensibly, like one of the worst in the leagues for a top line player. Hes not gong to change how he plays on the avs, and that wont work well under Bednar

Targeting Kane for the Avs is beyond awful. Doesn't fit a team need and hasn't been producing, plus will cost waaay more than the Avs can afford to give up. Give your head a shake lol. If the Avs have to overpay at all it should be targeting someone like Henrique/Jenner/Bennett, who can insulate Newhook for 1-3 years whilst he learns the 2C job, and then either be moved, let go or dropped down to 3C.

Playing center largely about what your role is in each zone. For periods of MacKinnon’s career, Landeskog was almost always F3 in the defensive zone while MacKinnon had easier defensive responsibilities more like a winger. Once they move to the offensive zone, MacKinnon takes over as a more traditional C.

It’s not ideal and it’d be an awkward fit, but stranger things have been posted on this godforsaken website.

but if hes not playing on Macks Line, hes not goign to get that transitional fluid hybrid role at C, it will be more straight line C which I think isnt that easy to shift to so late in his career. He really will be playing a traditional C position with his responsibilities in all zones. I think its risky

Yeah I guess my point is that in a thread where the Avs are trading Newhook+1st for Patrick Kane, Landeskog playing C is the least crazy thing to worry about lol.
