Description
From what I have seen, Chicago is only going to trade him if they get a great offer. Otherwise they will just overpay for Kane as a FA since they have a lot of cap space and he will help develop whoever they get (they will likely end up with one of Bedard, Fanitlli or Carlson if they drop, doubt they take Michkov and theyre all but guaranteed to have a top 4 pick). So here are my guesses
Transactions
1.
CHI
    2024 1st round pick (TOR)
    Knies, Matthew ($0)
    Kerfoot, Alexander ($3,500,000)

2024 5th round pick (TOR) to Buffalo for 25% retention

I get it leafs fans, you dont wanna give up Knies. Yes he is great. Yes this is a bad deal for the Leafs. But this is what it would take IMO. Not saying they should do it. This is my prediction. Toronto could still use another forward and this would make that top 9 absolutely insane. Imagine

    Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
    Tavares-ROR-Marner
    Engvall-Domi-Kane
    Acciari-Kampf-Jarnkrok

I also think that the Leafs would be better off doing this trade for Chychrun but Arizona really wants '23 firsts and Chicago can afford to settle for Knies and '24 first
    TOR
      Kane, Patrick ($10,500,000)
      Retained: $5,250,000

      Domi, Max ($3,000,000)
      Retained: $1,500,000
      2.
      CHI
        Gurianov, Denis ($2,900,000)
        Harley, Thomas ($863,333)
        Poirier, Rémi ($836,667)
        2024 1st round pick (DAL)

2024 5th round pick (DAL) to Buffalo for 25% retention

Similar idea. Harley is a very good prospect so the collective difference between Porier and Harley to Knies is offset with the lack of Domi. Could sub in Stankoven for them and add Domi too.
        DAL
          Kane, Patrick ($10,500,000)
          Retained: $5,250,000
          3.
          CHI
            2023 1st round pick (EDM)
            Puljujärvi, Jesse ($3,000,000)
            Holloway, Dylan ($925,000)

2024 5th round pick (EDM) to Buffalo for 25% retention

Similar idea but its a tiny bit less since its a 2023 first instead of 2024. They might settle for a little less on the offer for the earlier 1st.
            EDM
              Kane, Patrick ($10,500,000)
              Retained: $5,250,000
              4.
              CHI
                Kravtsov, Vitali ($875,000)
                2023 1st round pick (DAL)

2024 5th round pick (NYR) to Buffalo for 25% retention

Goodrow, Barclay ($3,641,667) to 4th team not on his M-NTC.

To me, this makes a ton of sense. Goodrow is all but guaranteed to be a cap casualty this offseason for NYR. Plus he is better off getting moved now instead of rotting away on 4th line minutes for the rest of the season and lowering his value. For the hypothetical of this, we say he goes for a 3rd and 4th.

This makes a lot of sense for NYR too imo. Besides clearing the cap, they have no use for the picks, Kravtzov has pretty much no value and the 5th and Goodrow are meaningless to them. They have Othmann and Cuylle comin up soon to replace Tarasenko and Kane once they are gone, and Chytil and Miller will both be getting north of 4 mil this offseason each. That is gonna be an additional 6+ mil they wont have back. Go all in now. And a top 9 of

                Panarin-Mika-Tarasenko
                Kreider-Trochek-Kane
                Laf-Chytil-Kakko

is insane. Plus a great defense and Shesterkin, who should be getting his game together by the playoffs, the Rangers would be cup favorites. Plus they will need a roster like this to beat the Devils then Canes then Bruins/TBL/Toronto in the ECF. The East's path will be hell for all teams, they could use one more move.
                NYR
                  Kane, Patrick ($10,500,000)
                  Retained: $5,250,000
                  5.
                  CHI
Also forgot to say since this pick is the better of the two firsts that the Rangers had, it will likely be around 20. Which has a ton more valuable than a 2024 1st and considerable more value than EDM's since this is much more likely to be around 20 than just a hope that they lose round one. This double's Chicago's odds of getting a better pick, which is why there is no A level prospect to go with it.

Leafs got their guy. No need for Kane. Grossly over valuing him not at this point anyways. How about a third and two B prospects for Lafferty?

He’s got a full NMC, if he asks to go he’s gone

Probably won’t fetch much more than a second

These might be what Davidson is asking but there's a reason why he's not in NY or TOR already. Rangers and Leafs won't be paying a premium for Kane. NYR already traded the later of their 2023 1sts, for Tarasenko, so if they were trading their 2023 1st it would have to be the better one anyways.

I could see him go to the Oilers, but they aren't giving up Holloway. I don't think Holland gives 1st for rentals, so getting that would be a win. The offer for Kane from the Oiler would be a 1st+3rd+ Puljujarvi at most. If the ask on Kane doesn't drop, he's not going to be traded, and I can see that happening. Dallas is probably the least likely to be giving up a premium for Kane, their new core is super young, so they will try to win now but there isn't going to be any pressure to panic buy.

Its not that I am overvaluing him, its that Davidson is. There is a reason he has not been moved yet. These are the trades I think it would be if he were to get moved. And its very possible that a team caves in if they miss out on all of their other options.

Yeah, I realize that you are saying this is the ask, but the ask is going to have to drop if he moves. NYR, TOR, and Dallas are very unlikely to cave. Holland won't be trading Holloway for though, not for a rental since he doesn't give 1st usually for rentals. They are so tight to the cap, that it's money in- money out, so means they can't be moving 2 for 1 in terms of roster spots either. So, if Holland caves, it's going to be The 1st+bourgault or some prospect+ a 3rd, but I don't see that happening. Their focus is on upgrading their defence, and they are inquiring on Kane because Davidson is running out of options, so he either gets something or nothing.

                    1. Kane holds all the Cards as he has a Full no trade and as far as reports go he wanted to go to 2 teams NYR and the Leafs in that order. I think both are now out as they have both made big deals already and cap is very tight for them.
                    2. Chicago has to trade him and get as much assets as they can based on who is in and where Kane will wave to go. Not trading him is not an option as her will not resign in Chicago next year.
                    3. Kane is not the Elite player he used to be and a trade might also need to include a 3rd team to buy down the cap even more so that would mean less return for the Hawks.

As far as the Leaf's trade the Leaf's would not give up Knies or a 1st for him.

Why do you (like so many on this site) just assume the team (in case the Hawks) will just re-sign a player if they don’t t get what they are asking for in a trade? The player has to re-sign and I can’t imagine Kane will re-sign in Chicago - he’s been pretty critical of them and he openly talked about wanting to get moved to rangers.
He holds all the cards (full NMC) so Davison has almost no leverage and is basically a passenger ; these are all gross overpays with no chance of happening.

If the rangers get Kane it’ll be in the off season. I don’t think they’ll trade Goodrow before this next playoff run. Next year Goodrow is definitely gone tho

Drury would not have traded for Tarasenko if he had interest in Kane. Zero % chance the Rangers trade for Kane now.

As a Hawks fan, I like your thoughts, but if Dubas acquires Kane (regardless of what's going back) to play 3rd line minutes, he should be fired immediately. Kane, regardless of his stats this year, is not a 3rd line player. Interesting discussion points though.

Yeah, the reason is Kane and his agent haven't met with Davidson yet. That meeting happens tomorrow (Monday).

                    1) Kane and his agent meet with the GM for the first time tomorrow (Monday) to have formal discussions. He hasn't officially waived anywhere yet. All he said is the Rangers were a team he was looking at. Reports are pure speculation, he never waived for anyone nor told the media anything about Toronto.

                    2) Chicago does not have to trade him. He brings revenue to the team (ticket sales and jersey sales) and that means more then getting scraps for Kane. Also, you are making some big assumptions that he won't stay with the Hawks for the remainder of his career...nobody knows, but he just moved to the Suburbs far from the stadium and bought a mansion less then a year ago. Obviously his plan was not to leave Chicago with his baby and girlfriend. He has cited this is recent interviews and the decision is not only his as such.

                    3) Kane's production is a factor of first; a very bad team around him. If you watch, he's still creating chances but for the first time in his career the team around can't capitalize on what he creates. He is a playmaker as everyone knows. Second; he has a cloud over him with pressure from the media, fans and organization to wave...that takes a big toll on him playing mentally more then anyone here understands. Giroux just did an interview about this and why his production was down prior to getting traded last year. Third; he is dealing with nagging hip injury (impingement) the last couple of seasons. How hard are you going to push the pain level for a team that is trying to tank? Lastly; no player goes from being a top 10 player to a average or below average player in just months (look at stats last season)...there's more to it some of which I outlined above and the GMs know this. If he ends up on a playoff team, you will see him light it up.

                    4) Nobody knows what he gets in a return if he waives and for how many teams. If he waives for 2 or more teams and those teams both want him, those GMs will pay for him. If he waives for 1 team then the return obviously will not be as good. However, no GM in the league is not understanding what I mentioned in point #3 and basing his value purely on production this season as such.

Bichsel makes more sense for both sides compared to Harley. Either of those guys takes a first round pick off the table. Guri and Bichsel. Then a fourth round pick to a third team for salary retention. Would be a likely trade. Even then I would hope Dallas says no. Kane has always been a bad defensive player. He’s finally getting to the point where the good doesn’t outweigh the bad imo
