Even if Calgary was for some reason willing to give that much for Anderson, how do they make the cap work next year?

Yes, they will trade Mangiapane & Tanev to make room for Anderson & Evans ?
No they won’t
Anderson to CGY doesn’t make sense

If CGY Trades for Josh Anderson and they pay any more than a 2nd and that’s with Anderson 25-30% retained, I might stop being a Flames Fan

Coronato >>> Josh Anderson
CGY 2023 1st RD Pick >> Josh Anderson

Josh Anderson $1.5mil retained = 2nd + maybe a B/C Prospect

If Markstrom will Waive his NMC for MTL, we may be able to work something out for Josh Anderson without retention, otherwise it just doesn’t work Cap Wise without moving 1-2 other players out and getting Anderson’s Cap Hut down to $4mil/yr

I agree CGY will be in a doozy next season with all the new contracts... except if they trade away Kylington +Zadorov +... I don't see it, but if they don't make the playoffs now, that might be another GM's problem later...

i agree with all of that but it seems like gms still have this antiquated notion of physical players being the crown jewel of all players. with everything that's been reported i wouldn't be suprise to see a price close to what i've put

i mean they are going to have to make a choice and get rid of some of the guys they don't need. maybe backlund and tanev could be the way to go. but either way they have amunition to make space next season

I understand the intrigue and benefits to Josh Anderson when he’s Healthy and on Top of His Game, but he reminds me of Lucic 2.0. Lucic’s play fell off dramatically at 28, likely as a result of their Physical Play Style. I mean Anderson already has trouble staying healthy as it is and a 0.40PPG guy just isn’t worth Top Assets or deserve Top-6 Pay

Sutter would love Anderson and I think I heard somewhere that Treliving is really high on him (tried to get him from us and Columbus prior).

The only way I see to make it work however, is around Mangiapane and Pelletier.
Nobody with movement control that Calgary might want to trade, is coming to Montreal.
That doesn't leave a lot of options without involving a 3rd team as a destination for such a player.

The majority here would not give up Pelletier to swap Mangiapane for Anderson.
Personally, I wouldn't want that either, but from the other side, and it has nothing to do with value.
The GMs on the other hand, with Sutter not being a fan and Pelletier being from Quebec, might see it as a win/win.

So the question would be, if not Mangiapane, who would Calgary want to unload and if there's trade protection, where would that player agree to go?

Right!? I doubt Markstrom waives, but MTL could use a Goalie and maybe Marky plays better when getting more shots against

Montreal doesn't need a goalie for a couple of years. We're kicking that can down the road, and Markstrom is in the wrong age bracket. He needs to be with a contender right now.
Montembault is getting the chance to develop and Allen is already extended for 2 more years. I might take him if the timing wasn't so off.

At a Cap Hit of $4mil/yr, Josh Anderson would be very intriguing but given his low offensive production, inconsistency and injury history, he’s a gamble, hence why he’d only be worth a 2nd + B/C Prospect to us. If MTL wants Pelletier, Coronato or Wolf for that matter, they’ll have to send us an Amazing Deal or Package of Picks/Prospect in return, an offer we can’t refuse type situation

As for affording Anderson if he were to be acquired, I say it’d most likely be Tanev who gets moved out, since he’s older and injury prone. Another option might be Hanifin if Kylington returns and plays well and Hanifin indicates he won’t sign an extension in CGY and we can get a high return for him. Toffoli might be another option if CGY feels Dube, Mangiapane and/or Coronato can replace his offensive production. Finally maybe Zadorov gets moved if we can find a cheaper 3LD option or Dennis Gilbert is able to step in an replace him sufficiently

I think Marky waives for almost anywhere at the moment, the teams really let him down, he's not playing well, it's looking less and less like we'll be serious contenders anytime soon.

I wonder if he'd go to Arizona, knowing that if he gets back on track, they would trade him to a contender in the next couple seasons.

Personally this is the only way i can see to make it work

Savard(3.5), Anderson (5.5) and Norlinder or Trudeau
For
Lucic(5.25) , Tanev(4.5),Coronato and a 1st .

The most logical move though is keeping it simple
But that's not how NHL works just trades we make on here lol

Coleman/Andeson swap with prospects swapped to balance it
I'd swap either Coronato and Kidney or Beck.
Or Swap NHL players again with the edge going to MTL this time slightly
Dvorak /Backlund swap gives MTL a higher cap hit but eliminates a year term
Really all the options will require this type of movement for CGY to remain in a position to pay Lindholm, Toffoli and Hanafin

Alternative i like is
Coleman(4,9), Tanev(4.5), Ruzsika(around 800k), Coronato and 1st round pick
For
Anderson(5.5), Savard(3.5),Pitlick(1.1)and Norlinder.

Anderson's the better goal scorer and has size.
Savard is the better defensman and is cheaper
Ruszika is the better player but Pitlick isnt a scrub just gives up 2 years age wise and has a lower career high.
Coronato is great and clearly part of the payday for MTL not a swap scenario like the others.
Norlinder was added to give him a new start and in a system that might need LD's(as MTL doesnt not,we'll give you Schuneman or Bowey too lol)
1st is clealry part of the payday and MTL's secondary motivation

Possibly, but at his age and with a Family, I don’t think he wants to move around, hence why he negotiated the NMC to begin with

MTL’s the Big Winner in all those scenarios

Tired of “Giving the Edge to MTL” they already took a lot on the Toffoli & Monahan deals, don’t you think!?

I would say most players negotiate the NMC just so they have control and don't get sent to the minors or traded somewhere they don't want to be.

Sounds like Hughes just wants to keep him, which I have also heard, I really doubt anyone pays a 1st. (Watch Calgary pay a 1st tomorrow)
