The odds are very high that he will not be as good a player as Meier. Tage having the most insane development story of any professional athlete has really fooled people about just how much has to go right for even top prospects to make the league at all, let alone become legitimate first line talents

This site definitely overvalues prospects a lot

Hes no Meier, but he could score some goals for sure if things work.

Not sure how much stock to put in, but the devils dont seem to like him much this year

He still has top 6 dual threat potential. Maybe a 60 point guy if things fall the right way. I would only trade him for Meier if that were the only way a deal got done.

Keep in mind --

1. He just turned 21. Holtz is out producing Meier at same age.
2. He has 2+ years on ELC remaining. NJD are in no rush.
3. He is being developed with coaching, strength training, film time, not with reps. Brunette especially spends a lot of time with him.
4. Goal-scorers rarely develop slowly and progressively. We usually see big step-changes. So his path to 30 goals may not look like 5->15->20->30. It is more likely to look like 5->5->25->30.
5. There were a lot of Devils fans that gave up on Hughes and Hischier too. I remember one going as far as saying he would have traded both for Laine.

Be patient.

As for the trade...it still will all depend on the contract. Having Bratt to sign too makes it especially complicated. And now that San Jose says they aren't allowing NJD to speak with agent, it probably removes Meier from our list. We should move on to other guys.

He's soft and slow/can't skate. In what world does he become better than Meier?

Also…is Meier really worth it. Would he be a point-per-game player in Metro?

Not really, on the right side theres Bratt, and then a hole on the top 6 that they haven't really been able to fill.
