Not even close for Larkin, And Dubas already said that he's not giving up 1st round picks for rentals. And an extended Larkin would cost way more than this.

Horvat went for more than this. The first in that deal is going to be 12-16 most likely. The 1st in the is gonna be 25+ most likely. Also got a better prospect and a younger fwd.

Horvat went from West coast to the East coast, Larkin is being traded within the same division. There's absolutely no comparison. And people need to stop comparing Larkin to what Horvat received. They're not the same player.

LOL

Beauvillier > Kerfoot.

Raty > Minten.

Islanders 1st round pick 13th to 16th overall > Toronto's 2023 1st round pick 26th to 32nd overall.

Where's the comparison? SMH.

Exactly. How dare a GM negotiate a contract with his own player! The vulgarity of it.

People need to realize that Yzerman works on his own timetable. he's never signed any of his pending UFAs quickly. he has all the time in the world to get Larkin locked up.
If anyone watches his pressers, He has stated numerous times that he has up to June 30th to sign him. A deal will get done eventually. And no unless it's a massive overpay Yzerman won't move Larkin.

Stevie took Stamkos into UFA and still signed him. Why would Larkin even want to leave the Red Wings? He's a Michigan boy. The captain of his favourite team growing up. And he has one of the best GM's in hockey running the show.

And why would Yzerman trade him? Does he really want to start next season with Andrew Copp as his 1C? 🤔

Yup Larkin has never played hockey outside of Michigan, he's true Michigan guy and Detroit guy. Don't see him playing anywhere else.

And Yzerman would be foolish to let him go, that only sets back our rebuild another 5 years or so. We're still at least 3-4 years away from being a competitive team. losing Larkin would mean at least another 6-8 years of no playoff hockey. And we can't afford to lose a 60-70 point guy by far our best player. Lalonde is already complaining that we don't have any finishers. And losing Larkin would mean that we'd be tanking for the foreseeable future.

I agree, as do most, that Leafs chances of trading for Larkin are less than 1%, chances of extending him <0.5% so there’s that, but I do take issue with:

1/ Beauvilier > Kerfoot; not sure on that (Kerfoot has higher career ppg, Beauvilier higher this year; Kerfoot’s underlying metrics - xgf%, CF%, HDCA, etc - much better and it’s not b/c Marner or Matthews is carrying him - he’s been 3rd or 4th line; Kerfoot is excellent on PK with strong defensive metrics; Kerfoot cap hit much less) even I give it you, the extra year on Beau’s contract is a negative imo (neither team looking like they will be competitive next year, Canucks more so - how does a pending $5M winger help the Canucks?)
2/ Raty > Minten; again, not so sure - I will admit Raty is further along his trajectory and closer to being nhl ready. But Minten was drafted higher, is 2 years younger and arguably ahead of where Raty was at this point in their careers.
3/ draft pick - can’t argue there

It makes no sense. Sign all these UFA's this past summer to be a bridge for our young players developing. Then trade our best player or let him walk as a UFA? 🤔

I've come to terms with Bert being traded. Signing him to a long term deal makes me think of the Franzen contract. But Larkin? He's staying in Detroit.

When i'm comparing Beauvillier > Kerfoot, I'm talking about that Beauvillier still has term left where Kerfoot is a pending UFA. Not that Beauvillier is the better player than Kerfoot.

I get you but I almost think that extra year is a negative; a team like the Canucks are not going to be competing for a playoff spot next year - imo. They are way out of the playoffs now and they’ve essentially downgraded from Horvat to beauvilier (exact same cap hit btw). I think Kerfoot being an expiring FA makes him more attractive. Again, it’ll never happen but

Not really close to the same value. Isles 1st is likely in the 13-20 range, Leafs will be in the 23-28 range. 3rd doesn't make up that difference.

Beauvillier> Kerfoot as many have said.

Minten is not as highly rated as Raty is either. Closest Leafs prospect would be Knies.

So it'd be 1st + Knies + Kerfoot + 2024 2nd + 2023 3rd to be close to the Horvat package.
