Canucks pass. Reilly probably costs a 3rd to dump, and Schenn costs a 2nd, not an AHL player

Right idea in that Vancouver trade but the cost would be bigger. Since the bruins don’t have a 2023 or 2024 2nd round pick that trade pretty much only happens if they give up their first this year, which I’m going to assume is more than Boston wants to do

Trade Smith to clear cap, not replacing him by another overpaid 4th liner. Bruins give up the better defenseman in the Canucks trade plus Steen and the 3rd to have Schenn as a scratch. Again, it doesn't help.

I'm literally copying and pasting this from another thread with the exact same trade.

Canucks wouldn't take a contract back to get what will essentially be a third round draft pick since the Bruins pick will be the last pick in round 2. Especially one with more term then Schenn has.

@banks is this a bug on Lucic? Should be around 2.5 mill retention as max, not 3

It's depth. Big, strong, depth.

I'd rotate based on who they are playing. Someone will miss games. Zboril has a higher ceiling, but very inconsistent. Schenn is what he is.

Lucic is a force. He fits the chemistry the team has and would be 12th/13th setting a tone. Or at the very least, making guys think twice about running 48 and 25 through the boards.

Ruzicka - I could live without. Like the player, but probably wouldn't.crack linep. Was thinking more about Nosek's departure in the offseason.

Hopefully my trade was first?

My thought process was Reilly is an NHL dman. He is just redudant on the Bruins. He's a good bottom pair and could run a pp2. Calgary could retain and flip for a 3rd to a contender.

Steen, I don't - Vancouver seems to do ok with Swedes. In all seriousness, he's NHL caliber. Scene change would ne good for him. Not a world beater, but serviceable bottom 6 for cheap.

Why does evwryone think schenn will fetch a lot? He is a 7th dman. A 3rd would be as high as I would go. Steen is basically to take Reilly's $. I do think they could flip him.

Not sure if they have enough rentention slots open though. Basically buying picks for a team that should be backnin the playoffs next year.

Honestly, Ruzicka might be more interesting to add than Lucic. The latter is too slow nowadays. Also, Bruins had Lucic, Chara, Thornton, etc. and Savard, Eriksson still got cheapshotted.

The problem is not Schenn itself but the price (an overpay) to acquire him. If he would be a regular, maybe I'd consider it. To be the 7th D? Pass.

Canucks decline. The ask for Schenn is a 2nd. 3rd is one round later, and Steen doesn't add enough to bridge the gap between a 2nd and 3rd. Canucks want to clear cap and also wouldn't take a multi-year cap dump in Reilly back for anything short of a 1st probably. If the Bruins are adamant about including Reilly, the Canucks can just turn around and find someone else who will give up a 2nd straight up for Schenn.

I am not sure a 2nd is realistic. He is legit a 6th or 7th dman. Especially on a good team. Tb let him go for 850k, I don't see them giving a 2nd.

I guess we'll see.

lucic cap hit is 6 mil , edm already retained 750 so calgary can in fact retain half his orginal cap hit which is 3 mil

just looked at the cba, retained salary pertains to the original amount in all transactions , happened with devon dubynk most recently , edmonton traded him to nashville and retained 50% which was 1.75 m, nashville traded him to montreal and retained 25% ,875,0000 . using the same math lucics cap hit could get as low as 2 250,000

Reports are the Canucks already declined a 2nd for him last deadline. Justin Braun got a 3rd last deadline with a stat line of 61 GP, 16 PTS, +3, 114 Blocks, 79 Hits. Schenn has 51 GP, 18 PTS, +8, 77 Blocks, 244 Hits. Schenn beats Braun in every category except blocked shots with 10 less games played, and comes in at half the cap hit of Braun. GM's also often give up a lot more than expected for these kind of physical, hard-hitting, 3rd pair d-men (as proven by Chiarot getting a 1st+). Asking for a 2nd definitely seems to be around market value for Schenn.

Bug fix is coming, players in the trade list will display their current cap hit properly (Lucic was displaying as $6M, that will be fixed), and the retained 50% limit will be properly enforced.
